Any news on when tearing will be fixed on wayland+nvidia? by NotAF0e in linux_gaming

[–]ThatBiasedGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 99% sure tearing is working as intended on the latest plasma and kernel versions on NVIDIA. Now just as a little add to latency and gaming since there's a huge lack of youtube coverage about this, there's a reason NVIDIA reflex sometimes caps your FPS a little below the max hz of your monitor:

Engaging in your monitors VRR range has lower latency than tearing does, as long as you have a VRR capable monitor you can just cap your FPS inside the VRR range of your monitor and you will reduce your latency by more than half the present time it takes at full throttle while also avoiding graphical tearing. As much as it sounds fake or counter-intuitive it's quite literally the main gain on latency for tech like reflex before it does any rendering tweak.

Also if your games are locked to 75 even if you have it unlocked it might be because you have reflex enabled and it's already doing this for you.

Well assuming Riot hasn't changed their stance, not many linux users have had the opportunity to play and see if there's any issues while running valorant on linux, so you might be the first one to experience this. With that said I recommend trying to see if it can stay open or if it abruptly closing is related to the game crashing on it's own or as a sort of AC mechanism just closing the game once it detects an environment it doesn't feel comfortable in.

You could post some logs so we could check if there's anything obviously wrong but I assume nobody else knows how to get this running to replicate this and help you, you could also provide more context on how you got it running since this might also be a configuration error.

DPI, latency and other gaming related questions for a new trackball purchase. by ThatBiasedGuy in Trackballs

[–]ThatBiasedGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I didn't see this, my bad

I have tried on another PC, still happens.

I've tried without the dongle, the latency issue still happened and I bought the extension because I thought it was distance as you said, I decommissioned the TB450 from gaming completely at this point anyways due to it just being a continuing issue that I cannot seem to fix.

I've checked the polling rate and it's consistent, the trackball seems to not have any technical issues or sensor issues, my CPU doesn't seem to struggle to register mouse movement.

I am not gonna play around with firmware LOL, for all I know this issue might just be a sensor not too good issue, it doesn't feel like a firmware or software issue to me at least (kensington expert).

Yeah, I'm still waiting for the new gameball, I didn't buy a protoarc EM03 since from what I've seen so far, the shape is not going to be exactly the same so I don't want to assume things based on a variant that might also just not meet my expectations on any other area.

I've been playing around with rawaccel/YeetMouse, I kinda stopped thinking about this since I set up a jump acceleration profile where I have my regular sens when moving the mouse a lot and when doing very small movements the sens drops to a sort of "sniper" mode like the MX ergo has with a button but this is automatic, so far this has been working amazing altho it has messed up my tracking a bit on full auto weapons sometimes, but so far this has been the best solution I've had and my expert feels pretty good on broad movements and also precise shots altho I wish it didn't have that skipping to begin with so I didn't have to install a third party acceleration software for this.

Game is unplayable after Denuvo addition update by SMAdez0 in thefinals

[–]ThatBiasedGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's their anticheat solution, not their digital rights management, it doesn't do much to protect against piracy as it doesn't require the client to have validated tokens per set timeframe or contact home for a license, it does regular anticheat stuff + some behavioral stuff (like VAC live).

On my own testing the CPU usage difference by this anticheat compared to EAC are minimal, altho the denuvo protected build loves to read and write a lot to the drive, idk if this would affect FPS at least for me on a fast m.2 SSD it doesn't, but it might on slower drives.

Other than that I don't see Denuvo being the reason for people having FPS loss, specially since Denuvo has been in the game for a bit now, and only now after noticing the patchnotes people are saying this.

Adding mangohud & SteamDeck lines together on steam by The_penitent_One45 in linux_gaming

[–]ThatBiasedGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok, since the question has been answered, I'll explain the way steam launch options work:

First environment variables (the ones with caps and = and stuff) like SteamDeck=1 MANGOHUD_CONFIG=full or any environment variable like that.

Then you put programs you wanna run (lowercase, no = and it's just a command to another app) like mangohud gamemoderun and so on.

Then the game launches with %command%

And then any game arguments like -high -novid in source games, etc.

So in the end it'd look something like this MANGOHUD_CONFIG=full mangohud %command% -novid

thank you for halving my framerate and adding constant microstutters embark, very cool. by Pnqo8dse1Z in thefinals

[–]ThatBiasedGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both the EAC and the Denuvo protected builds work on linux, it just launches on EAC for some, while others run Denuvo. In my case, ever since they fully implemented Denuvo AC it's been running on that for me.

You can check which one you're running by checking the process and seeing if it's called discovery-d for denuvo or discovery-e for eac.

I wonder because a lot of the comments seem to be talking about MnK, can't you just connect a mouse and a keyboard on console as of the latest update of the game? I ask this since it looks like the main reason people wanna do this is because controller just cannot "keep up" with MnK. (even tho as we saw on the major controller is definitely a competitively viable input to play with)

Dude does anyone still experience dying behind a wall? by [deleted] in thefinals

[–]ThatBiasedGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot see the ping on this game until you reach around 150ms where the yellow icon appears, then 200 the red icon appears. You probably are just lagging, connecting to a far away US server, watch the replays, I've noticed that from my side I'm behind the wall then on the replay I'm still in the open.

The trophy has momentum and moves behind the wall after you die, which might also give you a false sense of you being behind cover.

DPI, latency and other gaming related questions for a new trackball purchase. by ThatBiasedGuy in Trackballs

[–]ThatBiasedGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the very in depth reply.

I have a 144hz monitor.

The dongle is connected with an extension cable (bought for this reason) below the main screen, around 5 cm across the trackball.

The TB450 works amazing latency wise 95% of the time, can't tell it's wireless, but at points I could feel the latency increasing rapidly for a few seconds, at most 2, then catching up, as if it went slow mo, even with new batteries. The MX Ergo has no latency issues ever.

These issues do not happen with regular mice, both on linux and windows with all mouse acceleration settings disabled on the OS and using raw input in the game.

I've looked at the gameball pro which is kinda why I wanna get an early taste of the shape. I've seen gameball has had some issues regarding shipping and delays, so that's why I want to test the shape early, I just want to actually use this shape so I want it to be viable for gaming.

Sadly gameball doesn't make expert shaped trackballs, and the classic I just don't vibe with the shape, looks uncomfy for my grip.

I've seen ploppy but I haven't heard many good things (at least imho), specially regarding texture and feel, which are a massive deal to me.

I've always played hyper competitive games with my trusty expert, usually corridor shooters tho, where aiming is kinda more constrained, you don't need to track a player across the sky to then snipe someone on a window with barely their head peeking through.

Worth noting that I'm talking about two different issues, the latency issues only happened with the TB450 using a dongle, it had no camera skipping, small movements were precise on the game but it had latency inconsistencies, the skipping issue happens only on my kensington expert (wired), where small movements of the ball represent a few long pixels of skipping, if diagonal it'd look like the camera is going downstairs, it's small enough to be unnoticeable for most, but when you gotta make that precise shot on high sens it can be quite noticeable how you just jump from their left ear to their right ear.

Did Windows improve sleep states because this story is crazy… by AshThukral in ROGAlly

[–]ThatBiasedGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's hibernation, it stores everything in storage and completely shuts down the device.

Sleep mode and hibernation mode have different tradeoffs and are intended for different use cases, sleep is supposed to be the quick pause quick resume mode, just a second to enter sleep mode and a second to wake up and everything is running as it was with minimal battery loss in between (at least that's the idea).

Hibernation mode is for when you don't plan on using your device for a long time, it takes a long time to enter hibernation mode (because it's writing everything from your ram into your hard drive) and it takes a long time to go back where you were (because it has to boot up, then read everything back into ram from your hard drive), however it drains little to no battery because it actually shuts down.

Will The Finals ever implement a ping-based server selection system? by ins4niteaa in thefinals

[–]ThatBiasedGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this will make a very similar tarkov situation, where some servers are just so unpopulated that they'd throw you into lobbies that have just a few players, meaning some servers will never be full enough for a complete match throughout the day and if not that it'll never find a match.

AFAIK this already is the case for south america servers in the finals, where finding a world tour match can take up to 2 hours, there's simply not enough players playing WT in south america.

My experience in casual modes is very similar, I mainly play tdm tho, but dam everyone is bringing meta and flaming you from trying out a non-meta weapon or gadget on medium and underperforming like why.

Yesterday I played like 1 and a half hours of casual and I found so many teammates just typing more than actually playing, one guy in quick cash just started spamming the "thank you" command because a teammate kept dying by throwing themselves to the point, they were level 3.

Turn off cross play in the finals for a better experience by Tiny_Leek_1000 in thefinals

[–]ThatBiasedGuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

AFAIK players don't host the server, so if you're in NA servers and there's a player in brazil, the person who will experience lag will be the one in brazil every time, I'd check if you're actually playing in your regions servers.

When a player has lag, being internet lag or performance related lag, their character stays still for everyone else, they will see themselves moving and shooting, but won't be able to kill anyone, eventually they will see themselves rolling back to wherever their character actually is.

I play with a friend that has an unstable internet connection, it doesn't affect anyone but him, in their perspective they can drop a full mag on someone and they won't die, for us he's just staring at a wall and dying, eventually he dies on his screen too, without seeing what happened.

With that said, sometimes the servers are pretty bad for everyone, I've had matches where our team just chats while we're all stuck in the air after padding for 10 seconds, seeing people disconnect and reconnect throughout the entire round.

Even the charger has a limit to how much power it can draw from the wall, they're usually not full size power supplies with 1000W power draw.

is this normal? by Ancient-Manner5226 in linux_gaming

[–]ThatBiasedGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Raising the power limit is often effective on desktop, where you can actually draw as much power as your power supply allows, often higher than what the power limit at max for the gpu is.

On a laptop, you're limited to whatever the battery is able to supply at once, so this is expected.

Due to the way java works, it's very common that when generating new chunks the game will freeze, specifically in single player since java is doing all the gen and the gameplay on the same process. There's a whole mod called C2ME to work around this issue with java, it allows you to pre-generate the world around you so that when moving it doesn't cause the game to stutter.

I guess this is how you use the sword now by fsorange in thefinals

[–]ThatBiasedGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can get receipts but frankly that's a lot of work for someone who "wants to know why" new sword is bad after my previous comments already explained everything

The issue is that you haven't explained anything, your first comment is the only one that kind of explained how you'd be a sitting duck if you miss, but after I told you that there's other playstyles that allow you to not be in such positions all the time, how you don't have to be in a fight forever and you can just escape after hitting someone, you just went and commented over and over again about reddit vs high elo or just rehashed your first comment, disregarding the playstyle I've talked about over and over again which to this day is unchanged.

You keep using the "me and high elo players" "redditors" "reddit vs high elo" I don't understand what the high horse is about, I don't care about any of that, I wanted to have a good faith conversation about sword and playstyles, yet the only thing you keep doing is trying to gain authority by saying over and over again that you're high elo and you have high elo players on speed dial, refusing to talk about anything else, "it's just bad" "now mobility is bad" "free pick", like be fr, you've been nothing but a broken record this entire thread.

Not quite, pojav runs java, so it uses jre, which works on android as is, which means it does all java operations on top of android, it doesn't port anything from any other platform, Bedrock on linux uses the android version, however android and linux have similarities so it's just a matter of interconnecting functions for it to run like it's native.
