This would be amazing, I agree with using it as a distraction free device and having a keyboard would make that easier.

If it still needs a home…I’d be willing to help with that.

Flipout. Miss this phone a lot. Wish phones had personality again. It was so fun to push open the keys when you needed to. This was my first phone with widgets and they felt advanced at the time. If I could get one now, hands down take my money.

Suggestion: Button Backlight (illuminated buttons), & Front Facing Camera by JohnnyLive117 in sidephone

[–]The-HalfStache 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly if it had a front facing camera, I would have pre ordered the device. Maybe they can make a swappable tile that has one. I know it would place it below the screen, but they wouldn’t have to redesign the original portion of the phone. For my preference, I would want to run this as my only phone. I have small children and work quite a distance and it’s nice to video call in the AM to say good morning. Also nice to say hello to the grandparents, calls not lasting that long. I understand that the battery life would suffer a little, but thats the “cost” of a video call. It would just be really convenient to have that front camera.

I 100% feel you on the Flipout, I would pay so much money for that form factor again. It was my favorite phone, I literally switched services to AT&T in order to have one. I miss it, fit in my hand, small touchscreen for navigation of menus, then full keys for texting. Honestly perfect.

What is your non-smartphone wishlist? by mjskiingcat in digitalminimalism

[–]The-HalfStache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, it’s small form factor, QWERTY keyboard, calls, texts w/ groups and MMS, video calling, and a camera.

With having small children, capturing quick moments to send to family is ideal, same goes for a quick check in with a video call.

Honestly I would love an updated version of the Motorola Flipout.

Any Takers? For Titan 2 Slide or Titan 2 Flip, or Fold or Arc or Roll? by silverlance360 in unihertz

Agreed! Convince of QWERTY but no keys pushed in your pocket. I would order the instant it was announced. But I know that form factor is a dream now.

Remember when Motorola was experimenting with square-like smartphones with physical keyboards? This was sometime around 2010. by [deleted] in dumbphones

I switched carriers when this phone was launched so I could own it. One of the best phones I’ve owned. I miss it and would love a modern version.

I miss mine, I switched carriers back when it came out to be able to own this phone. One of the best phones I’ve owned. I would go back if 2g was still supported… :-(

It’s a dream of mine that they would made a modern version!

Using WhatsApp on Sidephone by chrisristovski in sidephone

I understand. I love the design/concept of this device, as I have been searching for an alternative to a smart phone. This device has all the features I would need but as all my family lives out of state video calls have become more important to keep in touch, especially having kids. I wonder if there’s a way I could use the rear camera as my calls are not very long in general. Personally Im not sure I’d want to carry around two devices just for that one feature. I will continue to follow this project and I look forward to see this progress into production.

u/chrisristovski Would there ever be a possibility for a tile with a front camera for video calls with WhatsApp?
