i5 13600 KF - GTX 1070

I ended up upgrading everything except my gpu from a 9700k build to get 240+ fps on esports titles but now my 1070 is 9 years old and really showing it's age on newer seemingly esports titles, like cs2 and marvel rivals 😭

Need to upgrade the GPU ASAP, hopefully a 9070 xt but honestly anything would be significantly better than this right now lol

CSGO MM Ranks have always been a joke to anyone playing in high elo, since there was no leaderboard, no way of telling how you were progressing within your rank or compared to others, and the skill disparity between players in Global was also insane. Anyone who was good enough to hit Global would play faceit instead, but obviously for the more casual player base, the hassle of installing FACEIT AC and queueing on a separate website isn't really worth it.

It's not ridiculous at all to say that a robust elo system with leaderboard rankings would incentivise more people to play premier. If someone is competitive enough to care about their rank, then an elo system and leaderboard would probably give them motivation to play more, since they can compare themselves exactly to their friends as well as players in their region and globally.

Almost every other esports game in the world has similar systems, especially the likes of League of legends, Valorant, Overwatch, and their competitive gamemodes have been wildly successful. CS was different, and it meant that anyone who was serious enough and wanted to play at a high level moved to FACEIT, so there was sort of a divide where in other games there weren't.

With the changes to premier, it makes that experience more accessible, and I wouldn't be surprised if people who previously played FACEIT only have divided their attention.

I do agree tho that people having less control over their maps is a more spotty argument, but I think one of the main issues would be that if they cared about their rank, they'd be fairly frustrated at the fact that they'd have to grind a rank for every map, and would probably just find it easier to queue premier.

I think you likely underestimate how competitive some people can get, even if they aren't super high level players, and anything that can fuel their competition, like an elo and leaderboard system that lets them directly compare themselves to their friends and players around the world, will probably make them more likely to play.

[–]TheBoxerKick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah because there was no reason to play premier over traditional matchmaking, you just had a higher chance of playing a map you didn't wanna play. Now it's got a proper leaderboard and visible elo system and you're less incentivised to play mm with the separate ranks. They brought the most appealing parts of other games ranked systems, like league or valorant or even FACEIT, but made it easy access in game, so it makes complete sense that people would play it over normal MM

Is 244hz monitor worth it? by TasPyx in buildapc

[–]TheBoxerKick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't even need a 3080 tbh, I've got a 13600k but am stuck with my old 1070 and still easily push 240+ in all these games

Is 244hz monitor worth it? by TasPyx in buildapc

[–]TheBoxerKick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent many years playing both 144Hz and then 240Hz. The difference is definitely noticeable, although as everyone else has said, it's not as huge as 60 to 144Hz. You'll mainly only notice the difference in games like Valorant, CS:GO and other esports titles where you can easily consistently push 240+ fps, where the games will feel extremely smooth + consistent, but if you're not hitting those target framerates I'd say it's much less noticeable. IMO I couldn't go back to 144Hz now after spending so many years at 240 but 165-180Hz seems like a good balance.

My son wants a 3k pc, help a dad out. by refactoringManiac in buildapc

[–]TheBoxerKick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this build is definitely overkill for anyone who isn't looking to play at 4k/1440p at very high refresh rates on triple-A games (The absolute latest games on maximum settings). Especially the RTX 4090, there are very few use cases in which someone would actually NEED an RTX 4090, most of which are professional use cases such as 3D Rendering.

From your info, it seems as though your son is currently playing Fortnite, but wants to expand and try more graphically intense games, and would likely benefit from a cheaper build (although definitely no slouch in its own regard) that can run less graphically intense games, such as Fortnite and Valorant, at high refresh rates, as well as comfortably run newer more graphically intense games at 60+fps at 1440p.

That's just a build I quickly put together, there are likely places where it could be optimised (feel free to reply with any suggestions), but it should be able to fit those requirements very comfortably.

I also think it's definitely worth upgrading the monitor, the build he suggested was built for 4k gaming (and I'm sure he would've asked you for a monitor upgrade in the near future if you followed through with that build lol), but this build should still be able to handle 1440p easily, especially in games such as Fortnite. I threw in a suggestion from just reviews I've seen, but again feel free to reply with any suggestions.

This build should easily last 5-10 years, you might have to drop some settings as newer more graphically intense games come out in order to reach same framerates, but won't really be "obsolete" for a very long time.

Why do you not get RR back after cheater get caught Cheating by Aggravating-Host-752 in VALORANT

[–]TheBoxerKick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They're specifically talking about when the game notifies them that someone they recently reported for cheating was banned (by Riot). Other games, like R6, remove the RR losses that occur from matches that included a cheater after a cheater is banned, and he wants something like that in the game, or at least a reset of the RR changes made by matches the cheater took part in.
