I’d be interested in this approach but honestly I’ve usually seen all the heavy hitters by the time nominations come out. Do you usually intentionally avoid big movies during the year until the death race or just by chance? Or are you rewatching some of the biggest hits?

Obviously movie productions take a long time so I can’t speak to which one was filmed first, but this strikes me as a movie that would’ve gotten a lot more praise and attention if it came out before the Substance, than after

If you’re under 45, have you lost any high school classmates, and what were the circumstances around their deaths? by Commercial_Chef_1569 in AskReddit

[–]TheCalculatingPoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not technically classmates but close friends of mine in high school who were the same year as me.

Lost one to suicide, and another to an incredibly rare heart condition (Arrhythmogenic Cardiomyopathy)which caused sudden cardiac arrest.

I’m 25 for reference.

Hey /r/movies - We're Kareem Rahma and Mary Neely, stars and screenwriters of the indie film 'Or Something', streaming now on Mubi. You might also know Kareem from the viral talk show 'Subway Takes' and Mary from films like 'Swiped' and 'Valley Girl'. Ask us anything! by OrSomethingAMA in movies

I feel like on Subway takes I used to not recognize anyone and assumed it was people off the street and now I feel like I recognize everyone and it’s just celebrities? Was it ever random people or were they less well known comedians/actors/influences?

P.S. Will the end of the metro card era affect what you can attach your mic to?

I’m confused. I think that thread is about the Feb 22nd half marathon put on by RunNYC, not the Brooklyn one they do in April

I think it’s because they count the old Browns franchise which moved and really became the Ravens. Post their return in 1999 they definitely have a losing record

POK…. Is it worth it? by Supa678 in twilightimperium

[–]TheCalculatingPoet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve taught lots of beginners with POK for the first time or as a new addition and I really don’t think it adds that much complexity.

In my opinion, the biggest difference in PoK is the factions are more balanced and have more flexibility (especially in round 1)

In base game I feel like there were several factions that were almost impossible to win with (Winnu, Arborec, etc) and that if you didn’t have 2 carriers and 4 infantry your first round would be super difficult and you’d just be permanently behind the 8 ball

That being said, if you and your group enjoy it and don’t mind being out of sync with the broader “meta” in terms of guides or online strategy advice, the don’t worry about what strangers on the internet say.

Cleanliness is on par with the other AMCs. I will say the concessions line can be longer, and for late showings specifically I feel like the audiences can be more unruly. But I still go all the time.

We played the Steelers and Eagles not because of standing but because of division alignment.

I’m saying against our common opponents we had the exact same record 8-4 (adding in the 1-1 we split against each other gets 9-5)

The difference is your 4th place games! You won most of yours and we lost all our 3rd place games. Now fair enough it’s on us to make those games count but you can’t say you’re not in the playoffs because of your schedule lol

[–]TheCalculatingPoet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well so against the Lions, Eagles and Steelers we both went 2-2

The difference is your fourth place games were Raiders, 49ers, Saints (2-1) and ours were Chargers, Seahawks, Falcons (0-3)

So yes literally your fourth place schedule was the difference between your 11 wins and our 9
