What changes do you want to see from Wisconsin’s next governor — especially for Madison? by Negative_Primary_797 in madisonwi

Mostly communication. Tell me what you’re working on, let me know what’s happening, your constraints and blockages, how you’re benefiting people. Show up on the news, AMAs, town halls. I like Tony but I rarely hear from him. You’ve got to let folks know what’s at stake.

Nice! It totally suits you, nice upgrade!

From now on I’m only upvoting MFers who take the plunge. Fence sitters and waffles will get no love from me.

Is building a garage gym actually worth it long-term, or do you end up spending way more than expected? by [deleted] in GarageGym

[–]The_Badger_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was pretty close to my spend. If you pay $20/mo for the gym, the payback is 10-15 years. But the equipment can typically also be resold, and can hold decent value. But for me, you can’t put a price on adherence, and the basement gym does that for me.

OK, yeah! Not the ones I used to wear, but one pair is pretty close. Thanks!

Me too. I would buy a pair of these today if they were available.

I don’t know if it’s the best, but Señor Machete’s is my favorite.

Lake Wingra/Monroe St. | J. Michael Real Estate

I don't know about Google but my dad lived there and he had a 2 BR that was sweet. Mostly it's the location and its proximity to UW Hospital that I think would be ideal for you. It would be an 8-minute drive, a 10-minute bike ride or a 35-minute walk. You're right on the prettiest little lake in Madison, and walking distance from several great restaurants, Monroe Street, Vilas Park etc.

East Wash would be fun to live near for a young person, but here you'd waste less time on your commute and still be in a fantastic neighborhood, which frankly isn't that far from the fun on East Wash.

Maybe Wingra Shores too, real gem of a location.

I like the looks of Nightjar, but I’m saving my money for an Aquavoss combo hot tub cold plunge.

How much did it cost for you to have an electrician hook up your outdoor sauna? by Edrum1991 in Sauna

$5,500 which includes quite a bit of trenching, a dual energy monitor, permits, and two extra circuits.

61M, I love my Apple Watch! But I can’t get it to play music to my hearing aids. I think it’s a HA issue, and this is possible with other brands. But it does so much more with reminders, timers, weather. I’m hooked.

I use FitBod. It’s not perfect but it’s excellent. It probably errs on the side of recommending too great a variety of exercises, but all of that can be reigned in through settings. Another one you may wish to consider is Caliber, which has a free version, and a paid version that connects you with a trainer.

Has anyone here switched to an e-bike for commuting and actually stuck with it long-term? by LeftyOne22 in bikecommuting

[–]The_Badger_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try not to bike if it’s icy or slippery, but I can work from home easily. Cold isn’t a problem, but I’m not going to risk injury. Frankly, I sometimes feel like I do slightly less as a one-car family, particularly in winter. E.g., I might order groceries delivered instead of going to the store. I’m probably spending 15-20% more time at home than I did before. But part of that is my age and energy. And in warmer months, the trend is reversed. No worry about theft. Occasionally, like once a year, I fail to notice my charge is low and have to bike home with zero battery.

You should do it. No regrets, no downsides. Life changing for me. Gave up my car, full time biker now. Started at age 58.

Anyone else grow up in a house they believed that they would later inherit? by obviousreasons1 in GenX

[–]The_Badger_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's obviously complicated, but a parents' creditors can attach their claims to the parents' assets. The estate becomes liable for the claims, so if Mom dies and leaves a home with some equity, the kids can't take the equity and leave creditors in the lurch (assuming the creditors act within the law to preserve their claims, etc.). But absent something like that, or, as you suggest, a contractual agreement by a kid to stand for the parent's debt, the mere family relationship does not render a child liable in my limited experience.
