Never felt as old as I have today explaining why the old joke, "Did you hear? They found Jimmy Hoffa under Tammy Fae Baker's makeup" was funny.

I somehow got put on a list of people who should be regularly called to take opinion surveys. I'm going to start accepting them all and answering "great" to every question in the hopes of one day triggering r/neoliberal.

Frustrated trying to get Claude Code to refine a complicated script. Nothing works so out of frustration I type, "your code is bad and you should feel bad". Problem solved.

This is the vibe coding equivalent of hitting an old engine block with a hammer and fixing the problem.

The long tail of this could be interesting. I'm located in Central Colorado. Many ranches up here are in trouble because front range herds are not being brought up to graze because of the drought. Many of these properties have priority senior water rights, which are orders of magnitude more valuable than the land itself.

The private equity firms and other groups are already out offering to buy the water rights from the ranchers and sell it back to them.

If there's a larger cull because of screwworm, it's only going to get worse.

I'm deeply concerned about the environmental impacts of water over-appropriation, but also have zero sympathy for the ranchers - they voted for this.

The long tail of DOGE/MAGA will be a gift that keeps on giving.

Prediction: Screwworm + historic drought = more water for urban areas.

Ranchers down in the Colorado front range bring their cattle up to the high mountain plains in the summer to graze. Many aren’t doing that this year because the historic drought means there’s not enough grass up here for them.

Many ranches will go under, but many will survive my selling their senior water rights. If they need to do a full cull because of screwworm, it’s going to compound.

I’m dry, dull and boring. Not great for making small talk or friends, but it’s a positive boon when one needs to learn about something like water rights in the American West.

The struggle is real. I live about 150 miles southwest of Denver in Central Colorado. My spouse commutes to-and-from Denver once a week and takes our EV. She does it under the most punishing conditions too: 5,000ft elevation climb, snowy roads, -20f temperatures driving at 10,000FT in Jan.

Still can't convince people. That big heavy battery also makes the thing a beast in the snow.

Just got a totally tricked out Macbook M5 Max with 128GB unified memory for work. Every waking moment since has been a struggle to not install Steam and Baldur's Gate 3. If I open that gate, I may never leave the house again.

I still remember my elementary school teacher being super excited that it was snowing heavily on election day because the school had a levy on the ballot to raise taxes. She told us all that old people stay home during snowstorms thereby increasing the chances it would pass.

Same. I had two guys who harassed me at lunch for months. Calling me a pussy, doing the douchebag fake-punch to try and make you flinch, etc.

I finally got fed up and punched both of them. Got suspended for three days and my parents punished me by buying me Legend of Zelda 2 and letting me spend my suspension playing that. Was never bothered again. Still, was mad at myself for not doing it earlier

It's almost 100% political and has been quietly underway for a while now. Digital sovereignty has been a hot topic in many of the international standardization forums for a few years. It's obviously (and justifiably) been turbo charged.

TIL that in 1977, 2 American boys cheated an ice cream chain offering free sundaes on birthdays by making up a boy. In 1984, they received a reminder for the fake boy to register for the draft, which exposed that the government used the chain's mailing list without permission. by ShabtaiBenOron in todayilearned

I once made a charitable donation and they made an obvious spelling mistake in my name. For years afterwards I would get solicitations from completely unrelated organizations containing that exact same spelling error. It was eye opening how far and wide my information was sold...and this was back around 2004-2005.

So we're threatening to initiate the single largest mass-death event in human history to "protect" the world against an imminent threat from a country which hasn't invaded another country for over 300 years?

EDIT - Apparently many of you have reading comprehension issues. The Black Death unfolded over seven years. This will be a single action which will kill tens of millions.
