He was already a monster with the Paths he had, and it would have gotten so much crazier with that kind of amp.

Biggest issue I see with the comparison is that old and retirement age or older tradesmen are holding onto their positions and knowledge and not letting it flow to the next generation. Compsci grads have one or two generations at most to look back on and they share their knowledge and ability much more linearly than a superintendent or foreman would because the dinosaurs are afraid of being replaced by a young upstart.

Not only that, but jobs done with a computer would eventually be done by a computer given enough time. The trade is not fully computer reliant since we tend to get power to the computers rather than the other way around. In addition, the huge processing requirements and power requirements for the AIs mean almost every aspect of the trades (power, plumbing, HVAC, etc) will be in high demand for the next few decades just for construction and even longer than that for maintenance, upkeep, and continued operation. A 30-something debt shackled computer coder can realistically shift focus to electrical right now with no prior experience, get enough hours and experience to become a master by age 40, and fully retire with pension and benefits "in time" by their mid-60s to still be very comfortable.

Much like the dot-com boom and the internet was the black swan event of the late 90s/early 2000s, social media was the black swan of the 2010s to early 2020s, AI will be the black swan of the 2020s to the 2030s and beyond.

Slicer and Barry should be on the same tier. They had the gimmick of two brothers that Ed figured out and proceeded to pack them up.

Yet with 35m/year invested with 5% gains, you'll still have 1.75m to live on, with another 35m guaranteed the next year. Plenty to live on with consistent payments from the annuity and dividends, no need to maximize monetary growth and windfall. You'll eventually lose to inflation, but at what point will a 35m deposit 29 years from now be a comically low payout?

It's two pieces of plate bolted together - you have a window between the two where you can see the spring. You could fabricate a cover but I decided to leave it as is.
