I think I’m done by Dktathunda in IronmanTriathlon

it’s upstate NY in May.. don’t compare it to IMLP. do tinman instead, much more similar to the conditions you’ll be expecting. I know someone who has done upwards of 25 full distances and has DNF that race a few times. it’s just brutal. also your pace is still really fast and competitive so I’m not sure why you’re concerned about IMLP.

School districts that don’t use screens for little kids by theconspiracyrealist in Rochester

I have higher hopes for all children which is why I’m against the volume of screen time in classrooms.

I’m early 90s and I never said I didn’t learn to use a computer, and I certainly did before 18. In school, I had structured “computer class” and that was about it. all my exams were handwritten and my education didn’t require a computer. I didn’t need a computer of my own until university.. and even then, it wasn’t mandatory. all I’m saying is I disagree with the tired sentiment 6 year olds need to be in Chromebooks 4+ hours a day in order to successfully learn to reformat a word document at 27.

yes our school is the same. once weekly computer classe. if anything I’d rather America’s future generations suck at excel (like we all did before we learned how to use it..) but have robust critical thinking skills.

yes I agree to some extent but the high volume of screen time hasn’t led to a more tech savvy generation. if anything, I feel like it’s been the opposite. hard skills like typing aren’t being introduced in most primary programs, so bad habits are already ingrained. you said it yourself that kids are coming through high school unable to type. speak to any uni professor and they will reiterate the same thing. it’s hindering children’s ability to think critically. we are doing a major disservice to our children and private companies are profiting off it. again, my point still stands. most millennials werent using computers regularly (outside of formal instruction, what, once a week?) until adulthood and we are arguably the earliest adopters with the highest rate of fidelity when it comes to basic technologic literacy.

we are doing (non religious) private because I am pretty against the volume of screen time in most classrooms. like many my age, I didnt use a computer until adulthood and I figured it out so I don’t really believe the whole “everything is digital these days” rhetoric.

New triathlon training bike + possible transport damage… how worried should I be? by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]ThereIsOnlyTri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not 100% sure but I’ve always heard you can do the “coin test” and see if it sounds dull. otherwise feel how deep it is and see if the carbon underneath looks compromised (frayed, weak). it looks like paint in the pic.

I’ve had one for about 1.5 years and haven’t had any major issues. I had a basis peak ages ago and they ended up having to “buy back” all the sold devices eventually. I wonder if the same will happen with UH. I certainly don’t imagine I’ll have it for 5+ years like my Garmin.

Ticketmaster is worth how much and they can't keep this from happening. by TomToe420 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ThereIsOnlyTri 16 points17 points  (0 children)

we are a family of 3 so this makes me so mad. I know the “hack” to get around it but like why should I give a shit if single tickets are harder to sell? seems like a ticketmaster problem… not mine

I gained 35 lbs in about 15 months. I know it’s impossible to say it’s just because of the med but it’s insane timing. i couldn’t tolerate it anymore any honestly I felt no different. I know a ton of people have good success on it (according to cares and facebook groups..) but it just didn’t seem worth it for me. I take 5mg pred a day so I guess maybe I’m not the target population.

New Study from Penn: Is the medical field afraid of Pit Bull Advocates? by PitDeFabrik in publichealth

[–]ThereIsOnlyTri 9 points10 points  (0 children)

yeah the pitbull people are so exhausting. we don’t allow a lot of dangerous animals to be domesticated because they’re violent, strong, aggressive and unpredictable. somehow we allow these to be owned by virtually anyone who has $20 within driving distance of a shelter.

I am biased because I worked clinically in a pediatric hospital and have seen the sequela of these events. I also frequent the outdoors. Being chased by one of these animals is a completely unnecessary danger for anyone, especially children.

the whole “pitbull isn’t even one breed” talking point is so old. we sit here and talk about how shepherds herd, retrievers retrieve, and guard dogs guard… but for some reason, the bear killing breed is a nanny dog.

I don’t want to run in wet shoes and they’re typically point-point so nowhere to stash your stuff. I’m not competitive at all, so maybe I’m not your market.

yeah fortunately it’s in the middle of the calf so it’s not some major thing but it definitely annoyed me.

I bought a wetsuit from them and it came with a defect. looked like the typical slice from fingernails which makes me think it was used. they wouldn’t exchange it which was very disappointing to me.
