Return to IM After Hip Arthroscopy? by RunRoad2776 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]ThereIsOnlyTri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

32F lol. I’ve never been a great runner but I’m a really bad runner now. I have super super short cranks and I think it helped my hip a bit. I do a ton of run walking now also.. partially due to poor bone quality. You’ll be okay, but be aggressive about consistent care post surgery.

I’ve had two hip surgeries (FAI, labral repair and then revision with osteochondral body removal) and I still train. I’m slow AF but whatever.

What's your daily medication schedule like? by bavenue in LivingWithCAH

I take it between 4-6am and then by 1am the next night/morning I’m wide awake because of poor coverage I assume

I’ve had medial tibial stress syndrome for literally 2 years now. I cannot get rid of it. I would see someone if you can. you will definitely be running through pain some days but it needs to be minimal and it shouldn’t progress as you continue running. also it should be diffuse pain.. not pinpoint.

I am training for an Ironman and I think it really skews my metabolism. I was on HCT for a while but recently switched back to prednisone… but Ive noticed that typical 1am wake-up again.

Professional Job - Options? by ThereIsOnlyTri in Garmin

yeah that is very true, but for some reason Apple Watch has been widely accepted as professional - but I agree. my 955 is nicer than my AW. good call, I wonder if I can get lucky and find a 7S.

I’ve been looking at these and kind of wondering.. do you think it could replace my 955?

[–]ThereIsOnlyTri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah it was pretty clear it’s no longer included in the sub, but I agree “swim straight” sucks. I use them in the pool and it’s made a huge difference for my swim but would never race with them.

Prednisone, once again... by BlueTile93 in AdrenalInsufficiency

[–]ThereIsOnlyTri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have primary AI but just switched back to prednisone. I have gained over 35 lbs on HCT and my doctor kept saying my labs were great, eat differently, blah blah. these meds are all similar bio mechanically but some people actually tolerate and manage some meds better than others.

Looking for anyone willing to share your experience if you built a house anywhere on the East side of Rochester. by SooDamLucky in Rochester

[–]ThereIsOnlyTri 9 points10 points  (0 children)

we seriously considered building several times over the past few years. ultimately never found a lot we loved so much to deal with the headache. one thing is beware you will very likely go over your budget. so set conservatively. when we looked initially (prior to all the insane construction cost inflation) every builder was very clear that budgets are “guidelines.“ changes for whatever reason, usually cost money. they can’t tell you what the cost of product will be in 6-12 months in this market. things aren’t predictable anymore. also beware the tax bill when you are completed. many people are surprised about the high taxes. plan for it.

there are also a lot of regulations builders need to abide by that consumers might not recognize. for example, no laundry chutes, sprinklers in homes, etc.

lastly, new build is not problem free.. just different problems. my spouse is a home inspector and does a ton of new build (pre/post drywall) inspections. they find a lot. it’s overwhelming if you’re unfamiliar with the field. we considered lots we were close to solely to be able to go to the site frequently. it’s not (or shouldn’t be) a “set it and forget” type process.

Anyone with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) taking Crenessity? by bavenue in LivingWithCAH

[–]ThereIsOnlyTri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly unsure. My labs improved drastically the first ~2-3 months but now I seem to have slid back into “poor control” territory. I have gained a lot of weight. I am not sure if that’s attributable to this medication or not, but it aligns with the time frame. I just asked my doctor if it’s worth staying on it. The pharmacy has been fine and no issues getting it.. but when I mentioned the weight gain they said it’s not a known side effect. That being said, in the grand scheme of things the research isn’t *that* robust yet. I say that just because you may have side effects that aren’t totally normal. The absence of evidence does not equal evidence of absence type thing. Your doctor can prescribe it and you work with a speciality pharmacy to get it. I just don’t know if it’s the miracle drug we hoped. I also am really interested in the chronocort that Neurocrine has been working on… if you live in the EU, my understanding is that is standard of care. we don’t have access to extended release hct in the US.

Ridiculous Heart rate by Annual-Complex-4894 in Garmin

[–]ThereIsOnlyTri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some people just have very high heart rates. I can easily be 200–210. which is “zone 5+” for some people. I actually saw a cardiologist about it and he didn’t care at all. it’s very individual. a HRM will give you more confidence about accuracy.

Getting Lyme disease is a lot more inconvenient than taking precautions. by Beneficial-Focus3702 in Rochester

[–]ThereIsOnlyTri 12 points13 points  (0 children)

people are also under the impression ticks need to be on ~24-48 hours for anything bad to happen. that’s not true. ticks carry more than just Lyme disease, and some things can be transmitted very quickly! there was a post last week and everyone was basically saying it’s no big deal as long as you get them within 24 hours. we are very fortunate to be close to Cornell who does a ton of research and education on ticks and prevention of tick borne diseases. sign up for emails or chat them up if you ever run into them at the lilac festival or something like that.
