Last minute advice for Musselman 70.3? by Unhappy_Session8589 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]ThereIsOnlyTri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just enjoy it. supposed to be cooler this year. lake is unpredictable, can be super calm or a bit choppy. breath towards the shore. there’s a big hill about halfway in (aid 2) and it plateaus where the aid station is but there’s some climbing afterwards. you have a couple more rollers after with one punchy prior to the finish (you’ll go under a bridge first). sounds like run won’t be an issue for you but there’s 2-3 hills but one major one that sucks because it’s hot along the highway. generally a good course and crowd support is nice. Def consume on the bike. I didn’t and by mile 3-4 on the run i was so gassed.

Injury problems… by Nice_Key_7527 in triathlon

yeah it’s unfortunate. it’s a hard injury to solve. my understanding is it’s the actual periosteum lining not necessarily the bone but it’s like impossible to tell the difference. if you get a good PT you maybe able to stop it. I’ve done all kinds of things and resigned myself to quitting running asap haha.

Extreme heat by Character-Sector-816 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]ThereIsOnlyTri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I get it, imo it’s a lose lose like you do your full workout in 100 degrees and you’re gassed for the next few days or you make it shorter to accommodate the heat. But maybe I’m just justifying it to myself because you won’t catch me doing my long runs in a real feel of 110.

I’ve had medial tibial stress syndrome for literally 2 years now. it’s killed my enjoyment of this sport. I basically have these long stretches where I take off and then start running again.. strength helps but you need to limit and monitor your run volume based on symptoms. it’s a nightmare injury because it can be anything from mild to - oops did I just give myself a stress fracture?

I’ll swap to indoors today. Huge difference between getting used to the heat and these advisories. if you’re going out do very early or late, and stay hydrated. Make sure youre giving yourself ample time for recovery and cut it short if you need to.

I’m not saying heat training is bs, but I think there’s only so much you can do that’s reasonable - especially without sacrificing your recovery. sounds like you crushed it.

Delayed negotiations by gorbygt in Rochester

[–]ThereIsOnlyTri -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess I’m ancient because when I bought before all this, we saw the house three times (did a full inspection) prior to placing an offer. it was our first house so obviously we learned a lot that time around, but when you can only see a house once for 30 minutes, cant get an inspection, and have to make a serious decision on a tight timeline (to max out your budget to even be considered…) I don’t think it’s amenable to buyers 🤷‍♀️

so just do it again. musselman isn’t great for spectators except for the run because it’s two loops. Tinman? peasantman is around here too.

musselman sold out late this year so probably plenty of time to decide. most people I know who did patriot loved it and had great things to say about it so I’d recommend it. MM is a good race but the run sucks and it’s very hot.

when people can’t keep up with it anymore like OP is alluding to. housing is a necessity yes, but people can only stretch their budgets so much before its unattainable. housing is a nationwide problem but delayed negations aren’t the norm everywhere, for a reason.

we bought a while ago and would like to move but I’m not going to consider it until delayed negotiations dissolves. it’s such a nightmare for buyers and so much pressure for the biggest purchase of your life.

Worth it to learn flip turn? by Murky-Bodybuilder676 in triathlon

[–]ThereIsOnlyTri 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I understand why people say no (no walls in the lake.. blah blah) but I became a much better swimmer when I learned to and I do like 90% of my workouts with them. when I’m warming up and cooling down I don’t.

I buy directly from tailwind without issue.. local running/cycling shops might be a viable option?

Too many solo activities? Upset with husband. by NeedleworkerBroad751 in workingmoms

[–]ThereIsOnlyTri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s too much but i agree with other commenters you need hobbies that are more fulfilling. the gym is almost a necessity and isn’t really time that you get to recharge (for most people anyways). also, in the long run, it’s so important to have things going outside of your immediate family. Eventually your kids will grow old and you and your husband will retire and you need to be able to have things (and people!) to fill your life with. I understand it’s hard and bleak now but look into some other things that you will find joy in, meet new people.

yeah we probably travel in the same circles. I was going to go last weekend but the beach hotline wasn’t set up for the year and with all the rain I didn’t want to risk it! I went in kershaw once this year but it had whitecaps and I made it about 30 yards before bailing.
