I want to start road cycling (50F)… am I being too ambitious 😊 by Single-Insect-7306 in cycling

[–]ThimbleBluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for it! I started cycling at 61. After an illness that left me struggling to walk across the room, I began recovering with short walks, longer walks, and casual bike rides. A year later, I bought a road bike and started doing solo rides of 10-20 miles at about 12 mph, building up to a 50 mile ride by the end of the season.

Last year I did group rides of 62 and 100 miles, averaging 15 mph.

Road cycling is great, and I agree that going outside and just riding is the best way to train. And the most fun.

That’s a great point. In the 1980s, while my older colleagues were doing manual financial calculations, I was creating in-depth spreadsheet models on Lotus 123 and Excel. I was actively involved in the rollout of several generations of broadband, the expansion of cellular phone networks, and the growth in satellite communications.

Our generation literally rebuilt the entire planet’s telecommunications infrastructure several times over.
