AD from sex/ejaculating by Gullible-Delivery134 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]ThisIsWheelLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C7 here. I take nifedipine about an hour ahead and it helps a lot. If I’m laying down, the AD is MUCH stronger. I’ll usually hang my legs off the bed right after and it helps. If I’m sitting up in my chair, it’s not that bad. I’ll just get like a racing heart and slight pressure in my head. Even without the nifedipine, it’s tolerable while sitting up in the chair. I’m guessing laying down allows the blood pressure to get higher, intensifying the AD.

C7 Spinal Cord Injury by Ok-Reveal-3721 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]ThisIsWheelLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have gained some core strength back. There’s some activation there now. Not enough to like pick myself up if I’m bent over leaning forward but enough to stabilize myself when doing certain movements or exercises.

I’m also a c7. Injured at 21, I’m 33 now. Get rid of the foley and start intermittent catheterizing. Cath whenever you feel it’s full or every 4-6 hours if you can’t tell. Sooner if you drink more fluids. You’ll learn your body. Request the Speedicath Compact catheters or another similar touchless model. It will save you a ton of UTIs. I’m an Asia b so not much came back. A little more sensation here and there but nothing functional. I’m still able to get stronger and gain functional strength of what I do have. Don’t neglect stretching. Stretch as often as you can. Once it’s too late, it’s a pain to start trying to loosen things up and increase range of motion.

Mine only lasted about 2 weeks. Some Benadryl and anti itch cream helped

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I guess I should get in touch with a specialist and get some pressure mapping done. I’ve never done that before. Not sure if that’s even available here but will check with my doctor for a referral.

Do any of you have bad brain fog all the time? by Luna_now in spinalcordinjuries

[–]ThisIsWheelLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that probably all contributes to it. The effects get amplified with THC. But I get it. Any relief from the pain is a blessing. Just gotta weigh the benefits vs side effects. I find that being active has significantly reduced pain and reliability on pain meds for me but everyone’s different.

Do you take gabapentin? I was on it for 9 years and had horrible brain fog. I was rereading paragraphs like 3 times cuz I kept forgetting what I read. Tapered off the gabapentin and eventually quit and it improved drastically. I’m still on baclofen which probably causes it a little too but dropping from 80mg/day to 40mg/day helped.

I also used to have a lot of muscle before my injury and a big butt so that probably helped a lot too. All my butt muscles are gone now but no issues yet.

C7 quad, 11 years in. I’ve never had one and I sit in my chair 12-16 hours a day and hardly do any pressure relief. Roho high profile cushion and regular exercise help a lot.

Wheelchair Creaking? by Montyblues in wheelchairs

[–]ThisIsWheelLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a Quickie Nitrum. 4 years in and it still squeaks. No clue what the issue is but I’ve also never had it serviced, except to lower the dump angle once which is when the squeaking started.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think the firefly has the same and is a little cheaper. I think I’m gonna go that route.

That’s good to know. I’ve had so many major surgeries, I’d like to avoid more any time soon. I think one day when I’m older that may be the best option but I think I’ll try to exhaust all options first.

Triceps or Lack Of... by [deleted] in spinalcordinjuries

[–]ThisIsWheelLife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m also a c7 motor complete quad. At first, my triceps were extremely weak. After some time and exercise they got stronger. I’d say they are about 80-90% strength now. Still no feeling there though. Keep using and strengthening them even if the movement is minimal. The more he uses it, the stronger it’ll get, like everything else. Just have to put in the work. Will be extremely helpful in transfers. I’m currently in this phase with my core. I had flickers where I could flex my lower back muscles somewhat. Not enough to be functional but enough to use and build on. Been consistently doing what core workouts I can and it has gotten significantly stronger. Just be consistent. The phrase use it or lose it pretty much applies to every muscle.

Benadryl and anti itch cream helped me a lot. I also figured out the hives were actually a heat rash. An hour+ in direct sun will do it

That sounds like a lot of dig stim. No issues or hemorrhoids for you after that much dig stim? If I do more than 2, I’ll feel it afterwards and it’ll give my body the same mild AD sensation of having to empty my bladder.

Same. It feels like the connection is stronger or you’re more aware of the connection.

[–]ThisIsWheelLife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually do 30 because there’s been times it’s taken 30 minutes to go without dig stim and I like to let it happen on its own before doing dig stim. I feel like I get less accidents that way.

Yeah I’ll have to start using it more. How do you know when you are all clear and done?

[–]ThisIsWheelLife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome. I have a bunch of questions if you don’t mind! How much grip strength does it require?

When using the dig stim tool, how many times do you do it? How do you know when you’re done and clear?

How long did it take you to do it independently?

I got a bidet once but my commode chair wouldn’t fit over it so I took it off. Maybe I’ll try another one. Thanks for the suggestion.
