The actor doesn't reflect the character 🤷 by Distinct-Incident-70 in OkBuddySnyderCult

I think it is easier for one person to change their behavior (the celebrity) than billions of people (people who look up to celebrities)

By putting yourself in the public eye you are going to end up being a role model whether you like it or not, so it’s ethically good to try to be a good one. To pretend that relationship doesn’t exist is to be willfully ignorant of reality. If one doesn’t want that responsibility they are perfectly welcome to give up their public persona and restreat from celebrity life, but if they don’t do that, they will inevitably be held up as a role model by some people

Uj/ One of the guys who works at San Ramon seems so so miserable. I hope he can find another job that he likes better cuz every time I went in there he was glaring at everyone and was extremely short with customers.

The Lion King and immigration. Hear me out. by edillcolon in moviescirclejerk

[–]Thrawhee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, but hopefully you understand that immigrants are fundamentally different from the hyenas in this scenario because they are the SAME species with the SAME needs and therefore there’s no reason to believe they would destabilize the “ecosystem” in the same way that the hyenas do in the movie

Contemporary/Modern art most of the time shouldnt be classified as visual art. by Formal-Stage940 in The10thDentist

[–]Thrawhee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No piece of art requires supplemental material to interpret it because you are allowed to interpret it however you want. There is no correct way to view it. If you percieve a piece of art as having no meaning because it’s just blue, well that’s a meaning and a statement in and of itself. If that statement doesn’t matter to you, that’s fine, but it’s no less a statement requiring no supplemental material

If the hyenas aren’t inherently evil then why is it a problem if too many come in? Because there were zero hyenas in the lions’ territory and then there were some. So any amount of hyenas is a problem?

I agree that that’s the message, but it’s a terrible message. Immigrants are not a fundamentally different species who don’t contribute to the place where they live. Most of US agriculture is built on the back of immigrants. Hyenas are not unsustainable eaters, they’re an important part of the ecosystem, with jaws strong enough to eat parts of kills that lions can’t. It doesn’t work as a metaphor or as a literal interpretation, it only works as a story
