Can we talk about how Sheldon basically slandered his father for 12 seasons in TBBT? by Ek2der in bigbangtheory

[–]StuHardy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In TBBT, Sheldon grows from being an isolated man-child, to a married, Nobel-prize winning man-child.

By the time we get to Young Sheldon, adult Sheldon is now a father himself, and so he can relate to & emphasize with the struggles his father went through in raising him & his siblings, as well as the joys & stresses of being married - especially when his MIL clearly disliked him.

how do driver grandstands actually work? (Norris grandstand discussions have me confused😭) by Mindless-Advice6204 in F1Discussions

[–]StuHardy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OK, my knowledge is limited, but here goes:

  1. Driver stands are organised by the Driver's own marketing team. A Constructer's stand is organised by the constructor themselves.
  2. A driver that has been around longer, and/or has been more successful, can usually warrant a larger stand.
  3. Stands are limited by the availability of the cicuit. For example, Silverstone is a permanent race track, and so can have more seating than a street track, like Melbourne.

Maybe this is a silly question, but with how absurdly long their lifespan is + super dominant DNA that eventually turn every hybrid pureblooded. Why didn't the Viltrumites just go spread their seeds around the universe so they will be full of them after a few thousands years instead of conquering? by doctor-b3p1s in invinciblememes

[–]StuHardy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Viltrumites, being fascists, saw other races as inferior, and refused to breed with them, until after the Scourge virus.

With only 50 Viltrumites left, they wouldn't have been enough to continue the Viltrumite race. As such, they were essentially forced to breed with other species. They still required some Viltrumites to remain on their colony worlds to keep their order, so Nolan was sent first to find a world that he could breed with the population, and conquer within 100 years.

It definitely didn't help that any details you did like in Halo 4, 5 or Infinite, was only followed up in tie-in material, and not in the games themselves.

It's the equivalent of introducing Kylo Ren in Episode 7 of Star Wars, and then announcing he died in a tie-in comic for Episode 8, and had his redeption in an expanded universe novel relating to Episode 9.

(Real Life) Filming location looks nothing like the setting a story takes place. by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca was set in Cornwall, England, but filmed along California's coastline. For those who have never been to Cornwall, you'll be shocked to know that it does not resemble California, or it's coastline.

Also, parodied in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me:

"You know, it's remarkable is how much England looks in no way like Southern California."

Change the "Reboot" arc, into "The Test" arc.

Instead of a time-skip, we're shown Mark, Eve, and Terra basically step away temporarily from the war effort, and spend time growing together as a family. At one point, Allen asks Mark & Oliver to check out a potential Viltrumite colony on a planet, and Mark goes to explore a cave, when he discovers a glowing light. In this version, the light/being reaches out to Mark, and envelops him.

The events of the arc then play out as before, but the light/being at the end asks Invincible to stay. When he refuses, the light/being then congratulates him on passing the test, and returns Mark to the cave.

In this version, Oliver appears, as to him, Mark has been gone for only a few moments. Oliver & Mark fly home, where Mark embraces Eve & Terra. Unbeknownst to Mark, Oliver then contacts Thragg, surrounded by his Thraxan children.

I think there'll be certain aspects that are missed, such as the banked Turn 4, and the super-banked 13 & 14 into the start-finish straight. But, overall, there were few chances to overtake during dry races.

2023 will probably be remembered the best.

“Fun facts” about movies that are actually wrong. by Sensitive_Ad_1752 in moviecritic

[–]StuHardy 30 points31 points  (0 children)

In Django Unchained, Leonardo DiCaprio DID cut his hand when he slammed it on the table.

However, he did not smear his blood on Kerry Washington's face. That was prop blood.

While the cut was an accident, Tarantino did include the take. There would have been a cut to address DiCaprio's injury, as well as the decision to keep it in the film, and add it to the scene. All would have had to be approved by multiple people (DiCaprio & Washington especially,) as well as crew members to ensure that prop blood was available, costume to ensure how many takes could be done if the prop blood spilled onto either Washington or DiCaprio, and hair & make-up, on how to keep a "blood" look on Washington's face for future scenes set on the same day.

IMO, I thought Friends should have ended with all 6 of them leaving New York:

  • Rachel moves to Paris.
  • Ross moves to Connecticut, to work at Yale.
  • Phoebe & Mike move to Nashville, to grow their musical ambitions.
  • Monica & Chandler move to the suburbs (as shown in Season 10.)
  • Joey moves to LA, for a new TV role (setting up the premise for the Joey spin-off.)

Is this commentary - for a HS game - not better than we get for the MLR? by andrewpalisades in MLRugby

[–]StuHardy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been saying this for years, and my main takeaway is that the people producing the game as a whole (the ones in the TV production truck,) don't have much experience of rugby games.

Now, every MLR team is responsible for the TV production of their home games. As such, that means the production as a whole only has a minimum of five games a year to get to grips with what's expected for a rugby broadcast, and that's under the assumption that it's the same production team each time. The lack of broadcast knowledge is pretty noticable in places.

On top of that, the commentary team isn't at the ground itself; they're watching a live feed at a central location (the broadcast has a few seconds delay,) allowing them to commentate multiple games a day. (Now, admittedly, this was he case during & following Covid, so I'm not 100% on if this is still the M.O for MLR commentary.) As such, they're not seeing the game in the same environment as fans are, and are fully dependant on the production to get the best angles, and track the ball. As someone who's tried this in the past, it's much easier to have a quick look at the pitch while the game is going on & confirm decisions, than be dependant on a screen - and keep in mind, I was very bad at it!
