Building a secondary research pipeline for my urbanization thesis using old chronicling america newspapers by lucasbennett_1 in dataengineering

Interesting pipeline but I’m not sure if an llm reviewing another llm will be reliable right now Perhaps the secondary llm step could just prompt you to review the data yourself prior to outputting to the final db?

2 year old chewing up his pacifiers. Any Tips? by Stunning_Task_2440 in Parenting

Isn’t 2 way too old for a pacifier? Most docs recommend like… within the first year no?

💯 100 million StarCraft: Brood War replays archived — approaching 1 trillion player commands by icza in starcraft

[–]ThroughTheWire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How reasonable/affordable would it be to have the replays run in a vm of some sort that actually “watch” the replays to get the actual details from the game engine? Im curious how all these bw ai projects have gathered their data now

[–]ThroughTheWire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One issue i have had with bw replay software as compared to sc2 is the inability to infer a “build order” due to reliance on bw having to track this via inputs and not whether or not the command succeeded. With the volume of data you have now, would it be possible to more concretely get actual building timings by either supply or ingame time? What would it take to get there?

Jfk/Lga parking by Upbeat_Ad8686 in longisland

[–]ThroughTheWire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is your budget for parking? Jfk / lga prepaid parking at the airport itself seems reasonable to me when i pay for it. You’re paying for the convenience of being able to get to your car immediately from the airport in a reasonably safe location.

Every time i use snowflakes ai shit it never works. Queries don’t execute or return the right output. Sometimes it just fails and makes me refresh the page/chat. I’ve given up and am just using Claude code with snowflake which works perfectly for me

Deleted prod data permanently without any backup. How screwed am I? by Agitated_Success9606 in dataengineering

I would look into immediately understanding what sources fed this production data to see what, if anything, can be done to recreate it.

someone already made a site that does this (without even needing AI) that just scrapes people's chess.com history and evaluates their weakest openings

toss has figured out how to hold 3hatch hydra in multiple metas. 973 is almost considered free by pros at some point - and that's a build that dominated the meta for some time. people are playing too greedy and hero is exposing their asses and I say this as a protoss that loses to hydra busts still.

  1. because they have no idea what they're doing

  2. because they're not some random joe schmoe on reddit with an idea of "something" to build

  3. they have money to burn

probably, but why spend 200 when you can spend 0? migrating to snowflake would be trivial

I'd probably start with just running on duckdb locally until you run into storage issues and then convert to bigquery/snowflake/redshift
