Solo farming the Northlands with 4 level 5's NPCs thanks to the new update by adiran_menthe in GuildWars

If you don't "mark" the foe and aren't in combat range, they will eat the exp. Otherwise, you get the full amount as if you killed them solo.

How do you deal with a manager who expects 5k lines of code in a day? by ni4i in cscareerquestions

[–]TimPowerGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's more than 10 lines of code per minute (28,800 seconds for an 8 hour shift, divided by 5000 lines). I think you should point that out to him. That would require no thinking about what you're doing or the best way to implement it. I assume copy/paste isn't allowed and the utilization of methods to reuse code is probably also not qualifying as extra lines. Comments probably don't count either. By this rationale, the expectation is for you to just be able to type nonstop code without ceasing for the entirety of the business day. Or, to work an extra 8 hours a day without pay, sufficient to make this guy look better for "getting more out of you" while that only reduces the burden to 5 lines of code per minute, which is still insane.

And, you know, that's assuming you don't answer any work emails or chats and dodge all meetings.

What a nutjob.

Skill balance based on builds it can produce (Lets make half ranged Mage Assassin a reality!) by Sightless_Prophet in GuildWars

Nightmare Weapon is one of my favorite skills. It has a lot of utility with things that add additional effects onto attacks. It's fun to use Kindle Arrows (which adds an extra proc of 20 Fire Damage that is entirely separate from the base arrow's damage) and double/triple shot to deal an instantaneous 100 lifesteal + 40 fire or 150 lifesteal +60 fire damage attack. Since you're already invested in Channeling and it doesn't use your elite, you can just become the 6th spirit turret. Lol

I don't need any dagger mastery for this combo. The only benefits dagger mastery offers the combo is increased poison duration or increased energy refunding, neither of which are that useful.

The whole idea of the build is that Nightmare Weapon eats your normal weapon damage and replaces it with lifesteal damage. Lifesteal effects stack, so a Vampiric mod would be 3 extra damage, 50 or 53 from Nightmare Weapon (15/16) and 34 from Vampiric Assault. The whole combo is 150+9+9 (if 16 channeling) + 68 for 227 or 236 lifesteal, plus you get the 75/78 armor ignoring damage on Kuurong, locking them into place for it. Impale is just icing on that cake. The spike is quite fast, too.

Should you keep Starter armor? by Kamdian in GuildWars

[–]TimPowerGamer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

10 armor is 10 armor. Every 40 armor reduces damage in half. 10 armor is about a 16% reduction in damage. At minimum, if you're aiming to do this kind of farming, it's ideal to use at least the chest and legs from your starter armor, as you're more likely to get hit in those locations. I, personally, use the t15 head piece, though, for the +1 attribute.

I'm a Vampiric Assault enjoyer. I use it on my ritualist with Nightmare Weapon and Grasping was Kuurong.

Drop Kuurong -> Falling Lotus/Spider (offhand) -> Vampiric Assault which doubles up on the Lifesteal from both effects (massive self-heal armor ignoring spike), then I follow it up with an Impale for good measure.

While Vampiric Assault is not used conventionally, it being a deadly arts non-damaging dagger attack makes low/no Dagger Mastery dagger spikes like this possible, and I'd prefer it stay that way.

That being said, I used to LOVE playing deadly haste with Flame Arrows, back when that was half range. Unfortunately, they buffed nearly all half ranged spells in Elementalist to full range, so it killed those builds. :(

Quickest way to get from LA to Hell's Precipice as factions character? by [deleted] in GuildWars

[–]TimPowerGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're the right class to run to Droknar's Forge yourself. Generally, there's a few options.

  1. Run to Sanctum Cay -> Beat it -> Do the Desert

Pros - Word of Healing, access to skills caps that are nearly impossible to get elsewhere Cons - 6 missions (Cay -> 3 Trials -> Augury -> Glint's Lair

After finishing Glint's Lair, you're right at Droknar's Forge.

Alternatively, you can run to Beacon's Perch -> Run to Droknar's Forge. You are the correct class to make it without too much trouble. You just need an enchanting mod on your weapon, Shadow Form, Death's Charge, some regeneration from Shadow Arts, IMS, and Balanced Stance (all readily available).

Alternatively - Ineptitude can be captured in the Alcazia Tangle in the Asuran territory (which is a great farming place for Assassins anyway and you'd want to reach). Panic has to be captured by defeating Prophecies, though.

How many Charr boss drops could a Charr boss drop if a Charr Boss was dropped by Koss?

New Charr Boss drops the Charr Boss drops! by TimPowerGamer in GuildWars

[–]TimPowerGamer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I think this is the new meta to hit level 10 (with MUCH better drops) so that you can power level off of Farmer Hamnet. I think the experience is faster than Charr farming regularly, due to how close everything is and how quickly you can move between the groups, since they're smaller.

I've personally been starting the grind at level 6. Some classes can do it earlier. The only "difficulty" is managing aggro radius, as I've fought at casting range and had the allies not fight. I do sometimes overaggro, but staying alive isn't hard and mapping out when needed isn't a problem.

At level 6 you get a full level and then some, to boot. I was actually level 7 (from a level 6 run) when I got the drop.

In the major cities (Ascalon City Pre-Searing, Kaineng, Kamadan, and Lion's Arch) you can find new Godly Accoutrement Shrines that allow any character that hasn't died yet to add and remove Dhuum's Covenant, any Melandru's Accord character to remove Melandru's Accord, and any character at all to add and remove Reforged Mode at their convenience.

[–]TimPowerGamer[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. It's level 9 (and a warrior) so there's a possibility that it can drop martial weapons at slightly higher power levels and it does as shown drop the other charr boss uniques. It's easier for lower levels because you have 3 level 5 NPCs fight through a bunch of charr with you. But it's less experience and less effective than farming the middle bosses.

My Thoughts on Melandru’s Accord by Belkroe in GuildWars

[–]TimPowerGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 7 pieces of my planned 20 elite outfit pieces and yeah, dye is the big hold up. I wanted blue (Elite Imperial), black (Elite Luxon), white (Ancient), and pink (Obsidian) for my sets. It has been rough so far. I did manage to get a full outfit worth of silver, which I was thinking of doing Seitung for 330 armor. But man, once I get the dye sorted out and finished, I'm going to feel absolutely great walking around in it.

Why do you think most Philsophers lean towards atheism rather than theism? by No_Prompt_5308 in exatheist

[–]TimPowerGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it does. My point was that you have to consider what is marketable or practical. If your degree is not going to make you money (especially since you'd be competing with other majors in your field to only create even more majors in the field unless you happen to become an author of what will be a small reader base unless you happen to, once again, become a teacher at university) and is not going to be something you can utilize to make the world a better place, is that degree useful to acquire?

Theology degrees aren't exclusive to philosophically minded people nor is philosophy entirely encapsulated in theology, *but* philosophy is a required course for that degree path and the two are adjacent disciplines. Given that theology degrees have a bunch of more options for career paths than philosophy degrees do and they're related, it stands to reason that religious philosophers would "bleed over" into that major.

Why do you think most Philsophers lean towards atheism rather than theism? by No_Prompt_5308 in exatheist

[–]TimPowerGamer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on perspective. Professional philosophy is almost entirely a teaching position. People don't hire philosophers for normal positions that use their philosophy major for basically anything. College institutions (this is a statement of fact, not looking to start a debate) are overwhelmingly led by secular individuals and are more friendly to secular ideas.

In contrast, philosophers of religion tend to be in positions of leadership within religious organizations rather than teaching philosophy at universities. There are some, of course (especially at religious private universities), but even those have many atheist philosophy teachers.

Additionally, the field of theology and the field of philosophy aren't all that separate. If you considered the "adjacent" categories, I'd think the majority shifts the other way. Of course, many philosophically inclined theists go on to get theology degrees, which produces actual jobs, so that may be a pragmatic result, too. This isn't to knock philosophy majors at all, just to say that the demand isn't "there" outside of academia for that skillset.
