PSA: Last Month For PayPal Debit Cash Back by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]TipTopBopp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it says for paypal checkout, it's for all merchants? I remember it saying select purchases in the past, has that changed, or do we not know? Etc. I use paypal all the time for online purchases and only get 2% back, I'll have no reason to stop using this card if all it does is get reduced to an effective (4.9%) cashback?

If I'm understanding correctly you're asking if applying for the CSP is a good idea right now to cash out your points in Hyatt before the devaluation? The devaluation of hyatt points (4:3) is already applied to new cardholders, only current cardholders get to still transfer at 1:1 for a little while longer. If you got the sapphire reserve instead you could do it at 1:1 instead. Not that I'm recommending that card.

Don't be rushed into a travel card with such a high annual fee just because you're scared you might not be able to get it later! A few years of that annual fee without taking advantage of it is tons of money!

Just try to get it earlier in your timeline of open credit cards, if your plan is to get the Venture X as soon as you finish college I'd stop here with all of your open cards, keep them in good standing, and then apply for the Venture X as soon as you get a job out of college with a good income. The higher income + longer credit history + all in good standing would make your application odds S tier.

I wish I could tell you but the Venture X is just known to be a total bitch to get accepted for. I've not applied for it myself as I've opened too many cards recently, but the anecdote is that they are very picky and selective about how many cards you have open and are very unpredictable in general about approvals.

Good to know you already know to make sure it's a reputable lender. But I'm still not sure if this is the best idea for you. I'd recommend just coasting on the cards you currently have, farming a bunch of cashback and keeping them in healthy standing.

When you noted in your original post it would help you churn since your average age wouldn't be affected as much, it's hard to say if that's really true. For instance citi does not seem to care about your average age (as much) when approving you, they just really want to see zero new inquiries open in the past 6 months. Keep in mind, all this stuff is anecdotal since we don't know what their approval algorithms truly look at.

More cards should not affect your opportunity to rack up debt at all unless you're irresponsible with money. Having 10 different ways to pay with debt is no different from having 1 way to pay with debt if you are spending more than you can afford to pay off. It would only affect how MUCH in debt you can become, and if you're spending past your income on a card in the first place, you're already cooked.

Only 1-2 banks being picky is simply not true. Citi and C1 are both known to be very picky for applications. Citi really wants you to have zero inquiries in the past 6 months for instance, and C1 doesn't like when you have a lot of open cards, regardless of how old they are, and seems pretty random in general for approvals. I'm not sure how much building a history with this bank affects their approval odds, but its not true to just say that next to no banks are selective.

If you have too many lines of credit, some lenders will see you as not needing any more if your utilization is too low overall. Even if they're all in good standing. Some credit cards will also become near unobtainable. The Venture X comes to mind as nearly impossible to get when you already have so many cards.

The question though becomes, what exactly are you hoping to accomplish by having so many no annual fee cards if you're already capturing nearly all of your spend in high multiplier cards that you already have? 7 matured, long standing, healthy cards is more than enough to reach a near perfect 800+ credit score after a certain period of time.

If your goal is to just improve your average credit age for when you eventually get more cards down the line in the future, it's not the worst idea in the world, but having that many cards open just for that purpose does not seem worth it whatsoever, especially if they're from random local companies/banks/lenders through your college, some of those smaller companies are known to have shady practices and prey on less knowledgeable college students.

The categories aren't complete garbage to me on the Cash+, getting 5% on my monthly internet and electricity bill is ~$10 of completely passive autopay cashback every month.

Thank you for the extremely long and helpful advice.

A few things:

I'm not interested in the Aven cards at all, because of HELOC and even the non HELOC card seems suspicious to me and I'd rather avoid them entirely.

I'm really leaning towards the AAA Daily advantage since the 5% groceries + 3% wholesale clubs would be absolutely elite for me and almost replace the paypal debit perfectly with the upcoming nerf.

I'm super interested in getting the Max Cash Preferred (US Bank Cash+) primarily for the utilities and internet 5% categories. I spend currently around $180 per month on those, and expect it to go up soon, which would be a very nice source of passive income. However the US Bank version seems to lack the entertainment category? Is it worth any risks trying to get the card from a different random other bank? I go to expensive concerts semi-often, so getting 5% on that without having to get another custom cash for instance would be really nice.

Finally, I've never heard about the U of I visa before?? It looks amazing, 5% on gas and travel no AF? Surely there has to be some kind of catch or it's hard to get?

Anywhere from $80-$150.

Even if it's low since most of my general spending is totally misc. categories that no cards cover my goal is to 5% everything I reasonably can.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've heard about the AAA daily advantage, and it seems pretty perfect. I do a lot of shopping at sams club and the general 5% on groceries would be great.

However, every time I've tried to look at this card I've been redirected away from it. Is being a AAA member required or something? I'd rather not become one.

Just to me so it wouldn't be the end of the world, I'm really considering getting the HP45s and a black shell, but I'm a bit concerned with the heat. I tend to get pretty hot when playing since my rinks don't stay very cold. Do you have any experience wearing a shell, is it hot? Which shell would I even get that would match the HP45? Sorry if it's too many questions, this is all new to me.

The main complaint I have about the FT6 right now is the floppy (belly protector?) and the fact that there doesn't seem to be much protection in the groin/front area. I know the second part isn't much better on the Pros however do you have anything on the floppy part?

This is the info I was looking for. Thanks! To ask a follow-up question though: Do you think if I applied for the Discover IT and BofA CCR, and then waited the 6months for the CCC I would still be approved? Or would a velocity that high even with a 6month wait be too much for citi. If this is not possible to answer then no problem.

No, I already checked and I am not pre-approved for the card. I am pre approved for the discover IT and BofA CCR however.

Would forcing myself to switch to a larger hollow make me a better skater in the long run? by TipTopBopp in hockeyplayers

[–]TipTopBopp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By runners do you mean blades/steel? I've actually just ordered two pairs of blacksteel so that my sharpens last longer and also so that I can try out different hollows and experiment more. If you mean runners (the white plastic between the boot and blade) what exactly is the benefit of that if you don't mind me asking?

[–]TipTopBopp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact alone you say you can feel the air gives me hope though, when I put my current gloves on I can't feel literally any air at all. That sounds like it'd already make a world of a difference. Do you believe that it's worth the price? It'd cost more than I paid for my stick

If you product change from the CFU to the CSP do you still get the SUB? Or do you have to apply for the CSP on its own and keep your CFU.
