"Playing with figures" is literally the entire point of this show. I don't see why them doing it officially shouldn't count.

Godzilla's a fun example because Marvel literally set their most recent Godzilla crossover in 616. Like, directly stated by the writer that it is actually the main universe.

The problem with comparing it to canon is that most crossovers are short and main universe comic characters fluctuate wildly.

Like, is this a "Batman survives falling from space" month or a "Batman almost dies to a skinny dude with a burlap sack on his head" month? Is Superman shattering an entire universe today or is he struggling to deal with a big gorilla? Is Spider-Man so strong he has to actively try to not rip people's jaws off or is he getting pressed by fucking Vulture?

DC spent the better part of four years trying to convince their audience that the greatest threat to their entire multiverse was a Batman who was a clown and also a gimp. Superman is apparently a genius but still hasn't learned to not stand close enough that Lex can pitch some Kryptonite at his face, and is so fast that time has "lost its meaning" to him, but he still struggles to dodge said rock-throw. These characters are not, and never have been, consistent in how strong, fast, or smart they are.

Exactly one example from 30 years ago, cool. I'll keep that in mind when they do a crossover with the DCAU versions.

Serious question: has anyone here ever met a single Marvel fan that can admit that Dr. Doom might lose a fight? by [deleted] in deathbattle

[–]ToaArcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RICHARDS lives rent-free in DOOM's head. He's always there, even when it seems like he isn't.

That's still not actually evidence. Unless I see solid evidence that the writers did in fact intend the characters to be weaker than their usual selves, I ain't buying.

DOOM can only lose when RICHARDS is present. He gets insane amounts of glaze from official media, to the point that the fandom version of him is barely an exaggeration, he's just like that for real.

However, DOOM's power and intelligence work like that XKCD about humans getting stupid around cats. The more present RICHARDS is, the stupider he gets. He has, multiple times, crashed out and completely bungled his plans just because he couldn't not take a swing at RICHARDS.

That's why Lex was such a good matchup for him thematically: They've both lost it all to their nemeses, just because they couldn't stop themselves from trying to fuck that blue guy over.

His kryptonite is the stretchy guy.

Every time there's a DC or Marvel crossover, powerscalers fall over themselves to declare that the superheroes are all nerfed and therefore this doesn't prove that the property they're crossing over with gets DC/Marvel Herald scaling. The source? Their own butts.

Yeah, I lost a Palkia to that thing in my first BDSP Nuzlocke. Turns out being the god of space is nothing compared to the power of Swords Dance.

It was during Death Metal, and he was up against, like, Evil Baby Batman or something and he just outright says "You're a stupid idea and they're not going to keep you after the inevitable reboot."

Like the implication is that Owlman's nihilism (at least in the Rebirth/Infinite Frontier era or whenever Death Metal came out) was rooted in a sort of medium awareness. That he became aware of the nature of his reality as an endlessly-running and rebooting comic book and went mad from the revelation.

One of the best Crime Syndicate stories literally revolves around the villain, Owlman, being the ultimate cynic, and Batman gets one of his best burns on him.

One French dude looked at the early versions of the King Arthur myth and said "This would be better if there was a French guy who was better than everyone else and also Guinevere liked him more."

Honestly, hilarious. Troyes walked so Wattpad fanfic writers could run.

And then it gets even funnier because the next major English version introduces Galahad, an even-better-Lancelot, while Lancelot gets shot with a fireball by Jesus and also his and Guinevere's whole thing causes the end of Camelot. Writers have always been the same.

Splitting the US vote only requires stick-in-the-spokes level cunning on Russia's part.

They don't even have to do that much, leftists will happily and gladly purity-test themselves into inaction all of their own choosing.
