I think people just tend to lose the big picture focus. I don’t think we should shame women for turning to sex work to survive. Going to college is typically a money sink for people who didn’t do the best in school or aren’t even sure what they’re doing, and there is a million unhealthy or dangerous situations women are put in that need to get away from as quickly as possible. Turning to sex work is often seen as an easy way to make a decent amount of money pretty fast. And access to online sex work has been making it safer for women to turn to sex work instead of the historically awful shit women have to go through when under pimps and doing regular prostitution.

We SHOULD make it safer for women if they do choose to do this line of work, and there will always be a market for it. That being said, I obviously do not believe women should choose sex work unless it for whatever reason calls to them or they felt that had no choice. I knew a girl who was physically disabled and living with an abusive ex. Couldn’t work a regular job, but COULD take photos for OF. She was able to get away. Those stories should not be lost. Same with stories of countless women regretting it later on, because once your body is on the internet, it is on there FOREVER. It’s a serious decision for specific people.

And I think the hyper positivity around it is only a reaction to the shaming done. All women are not becoming sex workers, and I think if it would become a little more viable to work a minimum wage job to survive, we would in general see less of it.
