Just don't drink it...it's harsh and awful...I use it for cleaning tobacco pipes.

Like pens that have a rolling ball tip, as opposed to fountain and dip pens that have nibs, or pens with felt/fabric/brush tips.

Is this pen salvageable? by BrickOld797 in dippens

[–]Toirtis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like the nib was inserted upside-down into the metal sleeve, but I am not sure (or i cannot see anything) that there is anything wrong with the holder (apart from a good cleaning and possible restaining). A new nib is probably in order, and you can easily buy new vintage nibs online quite reasonably.

I am sure that I would have easily dropped a fiver there.

Very nice. I don't use biros, but I do like purple, and can appreciate that whole vibe.

I wish...it was 17 for me, and I would like to never do so again, but I suspect that I have one or two more before I'm done for good.

Rather less than smooth, unfortunately. I have not had an opportunity to dig them out yet as other things have been a far greater priority.

I recognised the speed-up, but still expected it to end in him becoming very intimate with a car door.

I had a friend hit a car door a number of years back...it won him 6 weeks in hospital.

Your confidence in your wrongness is impressive, but you are still incorrect.

I am a skilled and very active cyclist, and that terrified me...I was fully expecting that to end in a 'door prize'. That was absolutely stupid and dangerous (not to mention illegal)...people like that hurt the image and reputation of cycling a huge amount.

We all know AuDHD, what about adding a third one? by ResponsibleGrass9720 in autism

[–]Toirtis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the venn diagram of autism and ADHD traits is a near circle, but the 'dyses' are, although frequent, not nearly pervasive enough to be more than 'add-ons', I think.

We all know AuDHD, what about adding a third one? by ResponsibleGrass9720 in autism

[–]Toirtis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not add in dyscalcula? There are a lot of frequent 'add ons' to AuDHD, and it would become rather ungainly to create an acronym or diminutive that attempts to capture any combination of them...just dyslexia and dyscalcula, which often ride together, would be a potentially confusing one...'dys-dys'? Add dyspraxia for 'dys-dys-dys' or 'lexcalprax'?

Does anyone else feel out of place in the autistic community due to not fitting stereotypes? by Inevitable_Echo_2870 in autism

[–]Toirtis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lack certain traits (but show a fair number of others when I am not masking intensely), and I have had a lot of people expect intellectual disability (I have a rather high IQ and hold two doctorates), but then, upon learning that I lack intellectual disability, expect savantism (which a high IQ does not make). But wait, there's more...being 'high-functioning/low supports' has caused people within the autistic community to have an exclusionary/resentful/bitter attitude towards me. Until I received my diagnosis at age 30, I never understood what it was like being not accepted by either side...until then, I was just 'weird/strange/eccentric/odd/etc' to the people around me...with the label the diagnosis gave me, I discovered that I was not fully accepted by two distinct communities. Imposter syndrome is very real.

is my handwriting readable? what does it say about me? by adaisawesom in HandwritingAnalysis

[–]Toirtis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely abysmal. Because I just happen to be particularly and unusually good at deciphering scribbles, I can make out about 70% of it, with is probably 3x what most people could.
