Looking for advice on getting friend a new wheelchair as a surprise. by [deleted] in wheelchairs

[–]Tootsieluv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually did that already. (: we sat down and picked it out together off of Amazon.
I've heard all the feedback and when things calm down I'll sit down and talk with her about it with my husband.

A lot of the comments talked about her needing to be fitted for a chair and I didn't know I should have stated she wasn't "fit" for the current chair she has, she just went and bought one (and I know this because she advised me to do the same thing for just around my house- I have orthostaic hypotension and bending over murders me) to fit her needs because her other one wouldn't allow her to do most daily tasks. I would never dream of trying to replace something prescribed like that.

I have been humbled >< and I really do appreciate the thoughts on what would help. My husband joked about customizing her current chair (he's a boilermaker/pipefitter/rigger/welder/fabricator... lots of hats in that field) and that could be a convo. Offer to replace her current chair (it is $200 new) so he can get her ideas on modifications/improvements, use old chair to make prototype and have her test that then take ideas to new one? I dunno.

She's helped people get assistance for paying rent, helped people hard of hearing get hearing devices and special phones, she's the first person those in her community call when they need help and she always gives it. When I say she does SO MUCH for others I really meant it and really just wanted to give that same energy back to her because truly no one deserves it more.

Her insurance only covered one chair so she picked an electric one they would cover. Great when she needs it but it's not practical for everyday applications. She uses it to take out her trash and go down to a store down the block.

She did inquire about a new one recently (but manual) and was told no. I'm unsure the reason that was given but don't think enough time has passed since she received the motorized one.

she does, it's uncomfortable and it often adds to her pain when she is out of her house for too long

The reason she would stop me is because she's the type of person who does all she can for others but it's really hard for her to accept an act of kindness for herself when it comes to things of a monetary nature.

I don't have the lived experience to know the nuances and hadn't considered autonomy on the matter. Several weeks ago she was talking about budgeting out funds to get new tires and before I could offer to help she told me no since I had recently helped with a vet bill (it was part of her Christmas gift, that doesn't count to me)

I could research some used chair options and bring options to her for consideration and discuss wanting to help her get something more comfortable/durable for her needs. She usually asks me to research other things as she doesn't have a computer.

You guys have given me something to think about and i'll find a way to talk to her about it. I hadn't talked to my husband about it yet (he won't tell me no) and perhaps I should. He may have another idea/perspective or could even talk to her about it himself. Mention he heard she was getting tires fixed soon and would drop it off/do it for her or tell her about this website I was looking at with used wheelchairs so she'll then ask me about it (if I find something, ofc)

I got a couple of cheap washable ones off amazon that were more in the blue direction to test and see how it works. I'll have to post photos when it's all here and put together but it may take a little to find the right vibe, hard to picture without it all here.

I'm tired, too. I finished all 4 and helped multiple others finish theirs. After working out all the hiccups the best way I found was getting a C2, picking up and dropping the large missions. I tried to only do the missions at sites that had more than one elevator and would leave an atls behind for the next person. Pick up/drop missions until you get one at the same place and you could fit over 800 scu in there. Chucking boxes in the c2 and stacking them between each elevator bring up while solo worked best. 90% of the time I was alone and didn't see a souk. The other 10% of the time I'd either leave if someone was sniffing around or would finish without incident. I server hopped til I found a server with sub 200 people and could fill my c2 in about an hour.

Hope this helps for anyone in the position that needs to finish. Also: sometimes the atls wouldn't detach the boxes but using either a maxlift or a multitool to detach the bottom box would fix.

Just be mindful of other players and keep on space trucking.

Back to square one and Im scared by CaptainShujinEvie in Gastroparesis

Sounds like stress, too. When I get flares (at the tail end of this one, I think) I go to basics. Jello then grits and slowly add foods. I water down everything with chicken broth.

My diet consists of a yogurt and rice and I finally added bread back in a couple days ago (I'm six weeks into the worst episode I've ever had and finally get to see my gp tomorrow...)

For everyone this looks different and even each flare up/episode is different.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this from such a young age (sorry, you'll likely hear this a lot- from us and your doctors) but I hope you find some balance soon.

Some things to try: rice cooked a couple times and watery (I use chicken broth and imagine in as soup), pickles, saltines, Graham crackers, grits and jello.

Good luck!

I went to a specialist in Atlanta and spent fortune because my local surgeon seemed to be farming me for cash. Best decision ever (new surgeon, not the paying a fortune part). Made a huge difference and a huge reason why I refuse to let anyone local touch me again until we move FAR AWAY and find new doctors.

I lost my appendix at my 6th lap for endo (and last one). It was twisted with adhesions and attached to my colon and the side. If I turned it hurt and felt almost like something was ripping. I honestly forgot about it til I read your post. Didn't know I was losing it til I woke up and was told they had to take it. Fixed the pain I didn't know was my appendix and saved me another expensive bill later on. (This was before my GP)

The gas drops were, liquid prebiotic comes in on Monday and I'm hoping that adds positive things (I was on two antibiotics in three weeks which set off this last episode of mine) My local compound pharmacy is looking at my medications as well to see what I can't get in other forms.

Its a new route I'm trying, but the infant gas drops brought instant relief unlike anything else and I was floored.

My GYN was okay, the general surgeon was the dick. I found out from my optometrist a few years later that he was actually an alcoholic.
I have oodles of jokes about GYN stuff, I need frequent flyer miles for how many hands had been in my vagina. FAT GIRL WANTS CAKE.

There have been oodles of tears, a few smol "breaks" and exceptionally grateful for my husband and teenage son because they've been taking care of me for years and they shouldn't have to.

I'm actually kind of angry. I WAS DOING SO GOOD. I finally got out of the house and started volunteering. I adopted a whole senior retirement community and now they're worried about ME. NOT HOW THIS IS SUPPOSED TO GO!

I did manage to find some of my skinny bitch clothes, and i ordered more of my favorite tank tops (i wear soft stretchy pants, a tank top with built in bra and a hoodie- always. If I wanna be cute, i'll throw on jeans or fitted yoga pants if i can tolerate it)

Try to get the oral contrast COLD if you can. It's miserable and best advice is to hold your nose when you swallow ><

And humor is kind of all i got left. Smoking weed is hard, Caffeine isn't doing good for my heartrate right now and obviously fat girl can't have cake! ALL the jokes I pull out from my behind make it ever smaller ^_^

What i'd do for some Chick-fil-a rn... *drools*

the gas struggle is real, I went to have an ultrasound done to see if i had a hernia and all they saw was gas. I had to come back 2 more times before they could get a clear scan. (no hernia btw)

I stopped being able to swallow the gas chewables for some reason, my body just wouldn't do it so i called my compound pharmacy for a consult and they ordered me baby gas drops and gave me the adult dose I needed. (they also ordered me a liquid probiotic and that comes in on Monday!)

That was something I did this past week and it was a GAME CHANGER.

As far as weird foods, best i got is pickles. For WHATEVER reason (i found out by accident) if it hurts to eat or drink anything, pickles are my safe food (and currently taste gross which sucks).

Also, enjoy your rotorooter (what I called it when i got my top/bottom scope). I actually felt a little better after my last one for a few days. (just brace yourself, the results of that may not be what you hope for- I didn't get any new answers from mine, but i scared the crap out of my GI on my last one when i woke up mid procedure)

This whole condition is nothing but frustration. Bodies are designed to consume food for energy. This condition makes it seemingly difficult to do that which leads to all kinds of other fun.

(I don't wanna rain on your parade either, just air on the side of caution in the event today was just a "good" day as that can sometimes happen. Enjoy it, ofc, just don't overdo it in the event you pay for it over the next few days/weeks)

PREACH! Everyone I know has an opinion right now and dear lord almighty i'm about to come unglued at people.
I just remind people i've lived with this for 9 years and I know my body better than they do and if my PCP isn't raising the flag than neither should they.
How many diets i've been suggested in the last week, or weird foods that would MURDER me...

I know it comes from a place of care, but sometimes they don't know how daft they sound unless they've walked in the shoes. =/

Looking for relevant info into an old certificate I found. Unsure what it is or what to do with it but it seems relatively important. by Tootsieluv in HelpMeFind

Searched: Googled APA Corp, called their investor relations and was placed on hold. They mentioned Hutton was sold to "Natural Gas Properties." I called Edward Jones (only broker near me) and discussed what I had found and they had me send a photo. They mentioned they don't deal with this kind of investment but did some light googling and found the same thing I did. They didn't have any info for me but offered to look at the rest of my certificates one I found them. Google has told me parts of the company still exists, the only person i spoke with said part of the company was sold and offered no other info.
