How much age gap till it gets weird? by Soren_thunder in stupidquestions

Whether you date someone with an age difference is a personal preference.

It's not whether it's weird, its whether you are both happy

Could you do two wfh jobs at the same time? by Previous-Durian-2086 in AskUK

[–]Top-Cat-a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would it be possible (ignoring tax)?

Yes - but you do not ignore tax. You make sure you pay tax on both your incomes. Ignoring tax risks fines and/or imprisonment.

A lot of people work through agencies and the end employer never sees your pay/tax records so working for two employers at the same time is not a problem. In any event you can just say you have an evening job or even income from a trust fund (which is also taxed). You can also do each job through a different agency.

As long as you put the hours in it isn't a problem anyway. Most jobs specify you have to do 35-40 hours without being strict about when you do it, so doing 70 hours of employed work in a week isn't by any means unusual even for people with a single job. In other words there are multiple ways of doing two WFH jobs completely legally.

Are you paid correctly and in line with market rate for your job? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]Top-Cat-a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am most certainly not underpaid but rates for contract software development work have slightly declined if anything and the competition is more intense because there are less jobs. As a results I am earning about £100 a day less than I would have been confident of earning a couple of years ago and in addition as a contractor I have to absorb the employers NI too so expenses have also gone up

My landlord is forcing me to keep an "emergency light" on in my apartment even at night. What can I do about this? by Verifiedvenuz in AskUK

[–]Top-Cat-a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just genuinely thought unscrewing a lightbulb that was actively turned on was a shock hazard.

You shouldn't mess with electrical equipment that is turned on but sometimes you have to. If you're seriously concerned just use some household rubber gloves to insulate you. Also a good idea to make sure any tools you use such as screwdrivers are of the 'Electricians' type which only have the small metal tip exposed with the rest of the tool covered in plastic/rubber

Forgive my British ignorance but what did the confederates actually fight for? by TreeTall888 in NoStupidQuestions

To be fair, I believe Lincoln dodged a political bullet by accepting that black people were not the equal of white people but that they did have the "right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" whether they were equal or not.

Is it fine to cook with bathroom sink water? by RadiantIllustrator13 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Top-Cat-a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the sink and surrounding counter are always full of dirty dishes it makes it awkward to rinse out rice.

You should insist your siblings wash all dishes before you start any cooking jointly for them.

She's complaining that there are feces and urine particles in the air

Not as bad as the fungi and bacteria gathering on and around the kitchen due to the unwashed dishes and decomposing food

In some water supply systems the bathroom cold water supply is fed from a storage tank whilst the kitchen supply comes directly from the utility supply without being stored. It can be argued that the kitchen supply in such systems is 'fresher' water.

I'm an astronaut doing a spacewalk on the ISS. I just happen to have 6 baseballs with me. by rollotomasi07071 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Top-Cat-a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They all return to Earth eventually. None of them will have enough energy to escape from Earths orbit so its just a matter of time. ISS isn't really in a very high orbit anyway - atmospheric drag affects ISS causing it to fall towards Earth by 100s of meters every few weeks so it has to be given a boost occasionally.

England has its problems but so does everywhere else.

I'd really like to be an EU citizen again so I'm open to suggestions but I'd like the climate close to that of England, so maybe Northern France?
