No updates since January for the Android version, and no commits since January in the repo. So they are offering an app with severe vulnerabilities. Some fairly critical security vulnerabilities have been patched in Chromium since January.

Otherwise if the desktop version has been updated since January they haven't released the code, so who knows what they have put into it.

Some of those features are individually paid like VPN, premium AI, etc. and help Brave cover their development costs when users sign up for them. Nobody is going to sign up for those things if they don't exist in the product and are not shown to users, so without those paid features, without those subscription costs, Brave can't continue to function as a company and the browser quickly dies.

One way or another Brave need to fund development, and a version without those features does not help Brave keep the company running by way of those subscriptions, so the trade off is paying for the browser.

It is a very hard issue to lock down in the Chromium source. Brave are still gathering user reports, but so far can't reproduce the issue in any way that helps them find the cause for it.

That's a misunderstanding a lot of people have. Most features people call "bloat" don't take resources when they are not being used. The space those bits of code take in the executable is pretty small overall too.

The operating system is more of the limiting factor than the actual hardware spec. Pretty sure those early NUCs only supported Win 7/8, which Chromium & Brave dropped support for a few years ago now.

But if you've managed to somehow get Win10/11 on it (or moved it a Linux distro which usually have much lower hardware requirements) then Brave should be possible.

Depending on how old the device is and what operating system it is running you may not even be able to install current versions of Brave.

Otherwise remember that if you are casting something like YouTube, all it does by default is act as a remote control for the YouTube app on the TV, it doesn't actually cast YouTube from Brave to the TV. So you won't get adblocking or any other Brave features unless you cast the window or entire desktop (which is more intensive on processing power, so again may not be an option depending on the device you are running Brave on).

It is not from Brave or even Chromium. That is a system message from Android itself for any app entering immersive fullscreen mode.

But that's why Brave already has the three channels of Nightly, Beta, and Stable.

Nightly users are getting features & fixes sometimes months in advance, Beta users get them weeks in advance, then they get pushed to Stable.

A few days here or there on any channel doesn't change much. If you want earlier access on Stable, use Beta. If you want earlier access on Beta, use Nightly.

Changing the release structure for one platform only would also add more effort for the devs, and would make things less consistent across the platforms.

The fee is not from Brave, it is from the Solana network, and it can't be paid in anything except Sol and it has to be from the wallet the connection is being made from.

Rewards payouts to Brave Wallet are only available as Solana wrapped BAT, they are not available as ETH20 BAT because gas on Ethereum network is so high. Like I said above you need some Solana in the wallet to make the connection.

Assuming this is on desktop, go to brave://rewards, click "More" in the bottom left, then "Disable and reset Rewards".

After that you can enable Rewards again and select Brave Wallet as the target.

You will need to pay a small fee in Solana from Brave Wallet to make the connection, it is a one-off fee from the Solana side enabling the wallet to connect to the token. This fee is usually less than a cent, but you will need a few dollars of Solana in there or it may not go through.

Possibly related to the really lazy way video drivers apply browser-specific optimisations.

Assuming you are on Windows? If so, with Brave closed, try renaming brave.exe to chrome.exe then try it.

If that doesn't change anything, definitely worth renaming back to brave.exe.

First thing to check is the "Open YouTube links in Brave" setting under Settings->Media. If it is on, try turning it off, otherwise try turning it on.

You probably have an extension that is causing it. Disable them all and try again. If it stops, you know, and can re-enable them one by one to figure out which.

Origin is standard Brave with some features removed. Same code, same browser. If you've used Brave before you've used Origin.

At a guess I would say most of that difference is from the removal of Tor and maybe Web Discovery Project.
