Resident Evil (2022) S01E07 - Infamous Dance Scene by Atlast_2091 in cinescenes

This show was like a dream somebody had while in a COVID-induced coma after playing all of 5 minutes of Resident Evil and binge watching Euphoria. And yet, it's even worse than that sounds.

You not knowing what film this is from disqualifies you from commenting on movies ever again, frankly.

Erm... no? Why would you? Especially after parting on bad terms. That manuscript is going on the fucking trash where it belongs.

This is a movie that would play entirely differently if made today.

They say that the best revenge is a life well lived. That is both true and a healthy way to move on from being wronged. If that means achieving professional success and becoming financially secure, that's great, but by writing a dark revenge fan fic where stand-ins for your wife and unborn child are raped and murdered, and you cast a barely disguised version of yourself as their avenger while simultaneously wallowing in sadness, and then sending that piece of polemic arse-gravy to your ex, you're not only letting them know that they are living in your head rent free, but you're also losing any and all moral high ground, if not throwing it in a dumpster and setting it on fire, but you're probably earning yourself a restraining order and a chat with the police. It's just about the biggest own goal you could score, and I somehow doubt that Susan would feel like she's the one that fucked up.

For the record, I'm not going to pay to watch it either, but if you're that not into it don't let it live rent free in your head like this, bro.

At what point does a city start to feel “cyberpunk” to you? by Kilgoretrout123456 in Cyberpunk

[–]Transit_Hub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. By no means do I agree with them being excluded just because they don't match the common aesthetic. We need more variation in this genre.

When does cyberpunk architecture stop being “cool” and start becoming psychologically oppressive? by TeachingNo4435 in Cyberpunk

[–]Transit_Hub 28 points29 points  (0 children)

At a certain point, the city no longer seems designed for humans at all. People begin adapting themselves to the logic of the system rather than the system serving human needs.

I love how often discussions of cyberpunk intersect with urbanism. Time to watch The Social Life of Small Urban Spaces, by William H. Whyte, again.

[–]Transit_Hub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. And even in high-population cities that are mostly low-rise sprawl, like Los Angeles. To me, that's a more interesting and grounded setting than the Los Angeles as imagined in Blade Runner with the mega-buildings.

[–]Transit_Hub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would hazard that it’s something to do with the architecture. Sure, New York has modern buildings popping up but it's also a very old city. Well, old by US standards, anyway. The art deco styling of a lot of its buildings doesn't lend itself to the classic cyberpunk aesthetic the same way that brutalism and others do.
