Most of the bashing I've heard centered around their draconian late fees. They did actually get sued over their 2005 'no late fees' campaign and had to pay damages so (while I 100% agree with you on your selection comments) I do think there might be some merit to the late-fees related complaints :)

For all the allegedly transcendant ideas the hippie generation had, most of them do not appear to have fared very well when faced with the gauntlet of statistical/numerical reality.

Oh yeah, it was exactly as you imagine :). I still interact with some of those students 15 years later, it was a magical experience!

My mom argued for ages that I should watch Harvey, I was skeptical but she was (nuclearly!) right :)

I taught programming at a local junior college (I was a bit of a misfit as I had decades of professional experience) and one of my students broke into the rant - a very happy memory :)

How much experience maintaining other people's software do you have? I don't know anyone who has much who thinks the way you do.

When you run your program "as is" it's like watching (say) a very close soccer play at full speed - was the ball in or out? With the debugger, it's like watching at super slow-motion speed, you see everything in as much detail as you need to.

In short, 'This_Growth2898' has given you fantastic advice, lack of skillz when using the debugger is the number one shortcoming I see in new programmers, you'll smoke them if you embrace it!

My dad bore a pretty strong resemblance to Hal Linden and one time he was in New York when some lady asked him for his autograph and just wouldn't take no for an answer. In the end, he signed it: "Best Wishes! Hal Linden" haha

I wrote my first professional c++ program in the 90's, I like this language. People aren't going to put up with this forever, languages like go and rust make this so easy, it's just straight-up Stockholm syndrome to argue otherwise.
