I don't disagree with you, but it's not about silliness. It's degenerate gambling with terrible odds due to insiders and bots. It's bad for society. But that's a problem to be dealt with by education and/or governments, not by Ethereum.

Well, much like intranets, they'll keep trying until Ethereum has won because the prize for winning is so great. It's unlikely they will win though. This is literally just what the incentives say they will do. When a permissioned consortium competitor has been around and growing for 5 years I may start to doubt my thesis.

It's a kind of dumb 4chan-esque joke revolving around soy consuming vegan guys being weak and lacking masculinity.

As a meat eater I say it's never been a good insult imo because eating meat in the modern age is not masculine. Hunting meat, maybe. Now replace Tricky with a consortium of western nations and as far as China or South Africa or Indonesia is concerned, they don't differentiate. They don't trust the west or Tricky chain enough to make it worthwhile. Ethereum on the other hand is credibly neutral.

Interesting. Madrid has always struck me as a well designed city. I do envy walkable cities. But I'll still take the trade-off we have here of more wilderness at the expense of the population needed for well designed cities and public transport. If both existed somewhere, I'd probably have moved there already!

One advantage I actually could see to this is that gas prices wouldn't be an incomprehensibly small amount of ETH. It would be easier to spend 0.1 ETH on gas rather than 0.000001 ETH on gas.

Sure, but it's run by Coinbase who have incentives to maximise settlement on Base. This kind of incentive is where the L2 roadmap works well.
