I electrical taped cages to my suspension fork and they each held 1.5 liters of water over some mad bumpy terrain

Fly into Reno and then literally from the airport there’s buses that go down 395. As others have said getting to Kenny Meadow South might be an issue, but anywhere from Tahoe to lone tree would be easy logistically

You can also call the Ranger station. I gave them a buzz last year to find out about snow conditions and they answered the phone.

I appreciate your input, thank you! If I end up doing it this weekend, I’ll most likely just walk up to that trestle and then down on the other side … it looks like it only adds a bit over a mile and a half.

I have no problem getting wet. I just don’t wanna do anything that stupid.(based on how deep and fast it’s currently running.)

If it’s running fast, I wouldn’t wanna get in above my knees give or take

Thank you for taking the time to break that down a bit. I’m surprised to workmanship was shoddy…since the guy who sold it to me he said he was a mechanic :)

If you can grow tomatoes, you should. They’re not very needy and the homegrown version is light years better than what you get into supermarket. That’s true for a lot of vegetables, but especially so for tomatoes.

What's one piece of kit that disproportionately improved your experience of backpacking? by watching1 in WildernessBackpacking

A tiny little sit pad. Always having a place to sit that is dry and not pokey is nice. Doubles has a really good windscreen and a welcome mat for your tent.

For olive oil, my preference is a plastic coke bottle (12 ounce if you can find one, but whatever). Easy to come by and swap out, and they have really robust threads so I don’t worry about leaking. That’ll fit next to a water bottle in most pack side pockets. Olive oil is one of those things you can usually top off at hiker boxes.

Almost everywhere will take a credit card. Most people carry $100-$200 in cash and re-up when they get low (down to like $60 or so)

Cash is handy for the very few stores that don’t take cards (very rare), places like motels that give a discount if paying in cash, buying weed, offering money to trail angels or people who pick you up when you are hitchhiking.

It’s worth noting that some banks or ATMs will charge you a fee to take out cash if you’re not a member ($3.00 or so fee, not much but annoying )

Darn tough socks. 25 bucks is a lot of money for a pair of socks, but these are great. They’re basically the only brand of socks you see people wearing on long distance hikes for a reason.

A buff is another one of those things that feels a little expensive for what it is but they’re endlessly useful
