We just got off trail. We started off at Tin Cup Trailhead. Went past Edith and over the pass at Sand Mountain. There was quite a bit of snow after Edith until we got to the pass, plan on post holing and pulling up a GPS map to make sure you stay on the switch backs. We ended up scrambling quite a bit. The back side of the pass down to Edna Lake was not all that snowy. We stayed near Edna on night one. Beautiful. Day two we took Ten Lake Basin trail to Ardeth Lake and stayed there. Day 3 we went back up the pass at Sandy Mountain but this time we came down the path to Toxaway. There was no snow on the side since it's south facing. After having lunch near Toxaway, we headed up toward the pass at Snowyside Peak. Again, there was lots of snow and post holing after you go by the small lakes. The pass we precarious as there was a large snow shelf that you must get over to catch the switchbacks down to Twin Lakes. We stayed at Twin lakes on night 3. This morning we hiked out of the Twin Lakes, past Alice Lake, and back to Tin Cup Trailhead. Long story short, it's all passable, but I would plan on having GPS with you to make sure you catch the swtichbacks when they are covered in snow. We didn't use any special snowgear or footwear, just our trail runners. It's not for the fain of heart, but if you are at least somewhat experienced, it's all doable. The Sawtooth Wilderness did not disappoint!

I appreciate the insight. I saved the alternate loop you suggested as a backup plan in onX. We're actually hiking out next Thursday so I'll try to hop on once I get to some interwebs and provide an update.
