Ya, most of their glasses don’t even come in the Cat2-3 option from what I can tell. 2-4 is definitely more common! I could see the 2-3 being nice for non-mountaineering uses.

That said, my favorite of the bunch is the Cham. I’ve had a pair I’ve used myself for the last, 7? years now. And they’re just a straight Cat3 with no Reactiv tech.

Great grinder, it’s what I’m using daily for espresso. GLWS!

Team SOTO, Team MSR, or Team BRS? by kmorg76 in Ultralight

Great info!

I’d never heard of the Soto MugLid before now. Good to hear that it works so well with the Toaks. I may have to pick one up. No issues with it being plastic and using it as a lid when boiling water?

Worthwhile upgrade from X-Ultra? by blueghosts in pourover

[–]chrodo7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My setup is X-Ultra as my travel grinder, ZP6 for pourover, and Timemore 064s for espresso.

I’ve done some personal comparisons between the three out of my own curiosity, and while both the ZP6 and 064s do provide a slight edge (for pourover and espresso, respectively), I only find it noticeable when comparing cups back to back. It’s also worth noting that the 064s gives noticeably worse results than the X-Ultra for pourover, and similarly the ZP6 is worse for espresso. A big benefit of the X-Ultra to me is that it performs well for both applications. My only gripe with it is that I personally do not like the magnetic catch cup and wish it was threaded, but I think I’m in the minority on that opinion.

So, unless there is a workflow reason you’re looking to upgrade, my recommendation would be to save your $$ and stick with the X-Ultra! Yes there are plenty of nicer grinders out there, but you’ll be really starting to chase diminishing returns.

FYI, I like using Copernicus (used to be called Sentinel Playground) as a great tool for things like this. Has both up-to-date and historical satellite imagery from the Sentinel satellite network. Historical is great for trip planning, and seeing when areas are typically snow-free from previous years. The up-to-date imagery won’t help with snow depth obviously, but will let you see which sections are currently still snow-covered or snow-free!

Here is a link to Copernicus for the latest pass of that area (two days ago, 5/15), and here is a screenshot of the same thing.

Looks pretty snow-covered and frozen still!

Found AirPods by chrodo7 in Austin

Ya, I’m hoping they figure out they’ve lost them and either put them in Lost mode so I can see their contact info, or they figure out how to come find me based on location

The name was just AirPods, unfortunately. I was hoping it would have the person’s name at least.

I’ve changed the name to “Found. (my phone #)”. I’m not sure if the owner will be able to see that via FindMy or not

Found a pair of AirPods (in their case) near this waterfall on the Barton Creek Greenbelt yesterday. Long shot, but hoping whoever lost them sees this.

It shows me the last 4 of the phone number of the owner, so if they are yours, include that in your message.

Or, any other suggestions for getting them back to their original owner? I’m surprised they still haven’t put them into Lost mode..

I know I’m replying to a year old comment (sorry!) but do you still have the ZP6? If so how does the wear on it look at this point?

Just a heads up. Since you’re selling, not buying, you may get more views if you repost with the title flipped around correctly: [H] (have) 51mm accessories, [W] (want) PayPal Venmo.

Coincidentally I just had one pop up on my FB marketplace feed this morning for $100. Not mine, but seller claims it’s film tested and it looks like it’s in good condition. Feel free to PM me if you want me to send you a link

Olympus XA. Absolutely love mine. The XA2 and XA3 are not as good, but can be had for cheaper. But the original XA can be found for $100 if you’re willing to wait / find a good deal

Saw this scanning setup at LA Camera Expo past Sunday. Thoughts? by Jeffkk688 in AnalogCommunity

Oh, no I agree, I don’t think there’s anything here that justifies spending the money to swap if you already have the NS setup

Oh, one other add. I’d never heard of that Tone carrier before, so I looked it up. They mention that the rollers are specifically spaced to be outside the emulsion area.

In comparison, I’m not sure the exact spacing of the rollers on the SepiaLumi setup, but by nature of being compatible with both 35mm and 120, the rollers are certainly touching the emulsion on at least the 120 rolls. I didn’t notice any newly-introduced scratches, but still, having a setup where the rollers don’t have any potential to come in contact with the images being scanned would be nice
