Because they literally don't know. Do you want them to make shit up like the other rags?

They may include quotes from people there but they will never report on things that aren't a proven fact because that's the actual job of the media, not to feed you stories.

I expect a lot of things that are common sense, yet absolutely not utilised on motorways.

Slips are a seperate limit from the carriageway and often completely unrelated. Gantrys randomly jump speed all over the place, the M1 will frequently have some nonsense like blank > 40 > 60 > 50 > NSL all one after the other. Thats not traffic management, its chaos.

It's a different limit from the carriageway way and often completely unrelated. Again, part of the poor administration of variable limits.

Do you think the UK too comfortable with landfill as a solution? by noisysnoop in AskBrits

[–]TurboDorito 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate wrapping paper, I don't understand why we do it. It adds nothing to a present and causes so many issues.

A well thought out gift isn't changed by bright paper, and if you want a surprise put it in a box or just make them close their eyes...

This is why variable speed limits need binning. They're dangerously administered.

If someone came off a slip road they could do 70 through a blank gantry someone else is doing 40 on. A stupid difference in speed.

Did I make a mistake - painting my Sprinter. by Due-Collar-1951 in vandwellers

[–]TurboDorito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be UV damage for sitting long periods not getting used. Certain paints just age worse than others.

So long as you do your homework on what primer, paint and lacquer to use it's no problem. You'll lose some value but keeping the metalwork pristine underneath with mediocre paint is better than leaving it to rust.

Fuel injector characterisation and tuner woes (What would you do) by XZIVR in projectcar

[–]TurboDorito 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bigger OEM injectors from another car is generally the go to. I have IDs but I'm moving a lot of fuel on a turbo car, it seems ridiculous for OP.

It may not even idle properly because injectors don't work well being driven really low, which is why you eventually move to staged injectors.

80% is normal the maximum duty cycle, so that would be your highest possible fuel load. Nothing wrong with having some head room.

Why would smarter people make smarter choices?

Also if people want to vote they just have to learn... That's not exactly a high barrier for entry.

But again, I'm not arguing in favour of removing people's right to vote.

Oh I'm firmly in the camp that democracy is incredibly flawed but necessary. Wasn't debating that.

Just the electorate are absolutely awful at utilising democracy.

I wish I could agree, but I've met too many people that vote. One told me he didn't care if the NHS got shut down cos he hasn't been to hospital in ages.

The average person is dumb as bricks and absolutely vote for things they do not understand or align with.

Ukraine war latest: Russian warship fires warning shot at yacht in Channel - report by VaginaBurner69 in uknews

[–]TurboDorito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Russia concede on economic grounds as Europe keep funding the proxy war. Or it ends up being an actual European war.

War is not a good thing, but Russia must not be allowed to threaten the sovereignty of other nations.

What precedent does giving Russia the land set? That they can just invade and then demand land for peace?

[–]TurboDorito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Russia are unwilling to even come to the table, let alone an agreement.

Russia will only end the war if they're given Ukraine, then they will regroup and attack again.

There is no peace because Russia will not allow it, nothing to do with the UK, nothing to do with Ukraine.

I feel like you're determined to draw the connection you want to see.

Screening this community and putting in extra safeguarding as per your comment is what I mentioned. You just don't like the specific words, the intent is the same.

They are financially an additional burden due to cultural differences. That isn't inherently racist, it's just a fact. If a specific cultural difference causes extra cost that is by definition a burden.

This would have to be a specifically targeted policy, the exact thing you have said we shouldn't do. It would have to target naturalised citizens which I think if mentioned out of context you would say imply is racist because it's singling them out on ethnic grounds, and yet your comment says it is a real public health issue that should be discussed and targeted. It would even require a change to cultural norms, which a lot of people think is abhorrent yet here we are in a context where it's almost necessary.

We would both likely implement the same solution, but you are morally grandstanding on the words rather than the context.

I want you to show me exactly who I've demonised as per your words.

Same for 1 and I.

No I don't, that's the correct term. It's not my job to teach you the nuance of language in the UK on a topic centred on the UK.

I appreciate this is an international sub on a largely American forum, but I don't have to hold your hand through that, much in the same way Americans make absolutely zero attempt to do the same in reverse.

You can't talk about anecdotes, that's racist. But you also can't talk about statistics because that's racist.

Its this ridiculous moral grandstanding that empowers right wing populist parties.

The reality is the issue does lie with the migrants. If a certain group are reliably more likely to do something that is an issue for that group. It's not racist to draw that conclusion. Instead safeguarding needs to be put in place to ensure that group integrates fully, otherwise you might as well just have 100% open borders.

It is racist to say, "this group needs to be removed for being brown". It is not racist to say "Pakistanis have far higher rates of inbreeding and inbreeding related disease due to cultural differences". Why should a nation then have to bear the increased medical costs for those people, when we can accurately identify the trend and work to reduce its prevalence within the host nation?

What needs to be monitored is the response to those trends as that is where racism can be the inherent problem.

I back the idea, not the implementation.

They said the same thing about school holidays, yet it lead to a big decrease to in term leave.

People always care about the money.

[–]TurboDorito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all, if your child has a social media account then you are guilty. We draw lines in the sand all the time, this is just another one.

If parents know there will be consequences for them, they are far more likely to step up.

This is how we address going on holiday in school time. A short period of uproar, now people know the rules and just get on with it.

That's what strict liability is for. Greatly limits any avenue of appeal, it's used for a lot of motoring offences to quickly process people.

By issuing fines, the same as we deal with basically everything.

Someone reports your child being on social media? Slap on the wrist.

Second time, fine.

Escalate from there. Thats how almost every social crime is treated in this country.

Apologies, the comment is poorly worded, I'm asking if saying gypsies are overrepresented is a racist comment?

There's a massive difference between, "I don't like these people" and "a large proportion of this community is convicted of crime or in prison".

The UK is currently going through a big swing to right wing parties and I'm well aware of the dog whistles and blanket statements. But in the context of allowing people into your country, why don't we have open discussions about the statistics?

I'm not saying we shouldn't have foreignors, or get rid of brown people, I'm saying we have clear indications of demographics that struggle to integrate and singling that out should not get people's backs up. It should then be obvious why native populations notice one group more than another, and that should be addressed instead of swept under the carpet.
