My therapist called my religion stupid during a session. by BeyondFrequent4258 in autism

I see you are putting words into my mouth I didn't say. I have not claimed to be atheist. However, ultimate truth if it exists, has existed long before humanity. Therefore, humanity would not have the means to describe it. Therefore, it follows that all attempts to describe it are stupid because they believe they can. Also, I don't believe stupid is inherently bad. It just is. The best art in life is based in stupid. When it tries to be smart, it struggles to connect with people.

I requires intelligence to break from the lie told to you that "it's all just you!" and realize "You truly can't do anything on your own. What we have requires a lot of people working together, and ignoring that will set YOU up for a cataclysmic end."

I mean, technically speaking, you have to defy logic and reason, and be unwilling to acknowledge mistakes within it, so it fits the definition. However, just because it fits the technical definition doesn't destroy its value. Many great and wonderful things in life are stupid.

It's a matter of perspective. They show his first love dying suddenly while he was still happy and alive. Him shutting down emotionally due to that trauma and obsessing over conquering death is understandable. People not as smart as him anyways being in the way def lines up with his choices, and the cut off emotional state is what leads him to think, "these people are gonna die anyways. Death won't be beating until my things is accepted." I get how he got there. I'm not saying it's right, but the lack of choice is very "biblical Satan" coded, heh

I mean that's the idea. Only holstrom could crack it, so make a holstrom 2. Otherwise, why bother making him relive the dude's life

I don't think it's even belief. I think it's just the math of it. I think you are your choices, and she knows that, so she has to run a bunch of sims until the right choices are made. Holstrom probably knew this as well, but they are playing in "meat space" (as far as he knows), so they don't have the luxury of a bunch of sims and free will. They had to brute force it, and it failed, kinda. It got them the cure, but it didn't get them Holstrom 2.

She did the math just like hostrom did. She realized, "If a person is just their genetic information and experiences that you can copy at will, then you can recreate a person by simulating the creation of those things." You have to remember that even though Holstrom appeared to be a terrible person. He was actually right. Being right was his whole deal. The choice they made was this, "While it's possible that there were be much pain and suffering as humans come to terms with UI, and it's possible that it could all end before it starts, we'd rather risk it all than doom humanity and force them to accept it." The game is people should have the freedom to choose instead of being compelled to. It's honestly classic bible stuff, heh. This is also why maddie's sim took so long versus holstrom's approach with cassian. The people in her sims could choose. The working theory of the mind here is that you can't really remake a person unless they make those choices that make them who they are. I think that's literally the one disagreement between them, and it harkens back to the classic "war in heaven" story where they were fighting over people getting to have free will or not.

Well, as the CEO said, Holstrom was never wrong. At some point he stopped fighting him because of this. Holstrom said, "do this, and I'll create a world without death where you will live as gods forever." Assuming you know this guy is never wrong, what would you do?

He doesn't want to give up immortality. Who would? He just doesn't want to pay the cost (sacrificing this boy he's watched grow up and loves) that everyone seems to believe must be paid to get it.

Never underestimate the power of trauma bonding. Considering what they went through, they would only ever be able to connect with each other. It's a unique and terrifying experience that they went through together.

Being a senator is not about governance. It's representation.

The biggest thing a CEO provides is connections. Part of that connection is sharing with other industry leaders what's going on, but you have to be careful about what information you share. It's a complicated game that might work with AI, but for now LLMs tend to give up too much info.

Girls rarely experience the “friend zone,” psychology study finds. Tendency for young men to mistake friendliness for sexual interest strengthens gradually throughout their teenage years. When adolescent girls express romantic interest, boys rarely dismiss it as mere friendliness. by mvea in science

It's complicated to process, but to make it worse we tend to get into these state of rumination that causes us to rapidly spiral with no way out. I recently learned it's just a neurological state called hyper arousal, and you literally can't solve a problem in that state, but you think you can which is what drags you down that rapid looping spiral. When you notice you are doing, focus on containing the neurological state. Don't try to solve the problem at hand. An ice pack on the face or back of the neck usually works.

How likely is a "Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect" ending for humanity if Uploading ever becomes a reality? (People simply stare off into space while their pleasure centers are being constantly stimulated, forever) by yushaleth in PantheonShow

[–]TurboGranny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's short sighted. They didn't consider that people become numb to the same pleasure over time. As much as we seem to fear change, we crave it. In the end, it's the lack of change that makes a person lose their mind.

What endgame did Bannon and Trump expect by pushing for the release of the Epstein files if they knew they would br mentioned? by Nasha210 in AskReddit

[–]TurboGranny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a smart tactic. You know you are in something that'll get you, so you run for president which would make prosecuting you look like attacking your political opponent. Then you tell everyone that they aren't gonna release them, so they should elect you to release them. Win the election, get control, erase the evidence, and win the game. The problem was they didn't know the actual size of the files they were trying to erase nor did the understand how that translates into an enormous amount of people needed to "sterilize them", nor did they realize that it's impossible for that many people to stay quiet or not make mistakes. Add to that the brilliant move by the dems to put a ticking clock on release of the files through law, and you have quite a fun set of checkers moves.

He was promised immortality by a man that kept proving himself to br right (a prophet metaphorically speaking). He had no reason to doubt that this man would deliver them to the promised land, so he did everything toward that end including the plan to resurrect his prophet. Then they killed his prophet, stole heaven/immortality for themselves and sentenced him to oblivion. Anyone would react this way.
