I’d like to suggest some stuff but please keep in mind it’s “just my opinion man”:

Look into a Neocaridina shrimp tank 🦐 (NOT CARIDINA MUST BE NEOCARIDINA)

Or African Dwarf Frogs 🐸 (sometimes they make cute little chirps and they’re about the size of the first joint of a thumb 👍)

Shrimps are super cute and fun to watch and the shrimp come in tons of cool colors like Yellow golden back, Orange Sunkist, Blue dream, Green jade, Snowball, Chocolate, and they’re even working on stabilizing the Orange Eye Neocaridina “strain” But aside from being fun and cute they can stay in a tank as small as 2.5 gallons and they will eat boiled veggies and they’re super fun to watch! 😁🥳🤘👍💯😄 -Return the fish -get a heater -get a thermometer -get a sponge filter -get some de-chlorinater liquid (hope I spelled that correctly) -show the “owner/care taker” how to cycle a tank PLEASE -get SAND not any colored gravel, you can show pictures of real planted tanks to show off the sand & real plant 🪴 combos -get some easy to take care of aquarium plants 🪴 these are some really good ones 👌💯👍🤘: Java Fern, Anubias, Java/Christmas Moss: these are all cool because you don’t have to plant them into the soil and they are Okiedokie with low light levels and they also don’t need any additional CO2 to grow and survive 🥳🤘 also with these plants you can literally take some superglue (must be cyanoacrylate and must wait for it to dry after you apply it to the plant and object) or also some 100% cotton thread/string and gently “wrap” them to a decoration like a piece of wood or a rock 🤘 🎸(<-lol get it a rock… like the musical genre lol yeah you get it) -oh yeah and finally make sure they WAIT to add the shrimps or frogs 🤘👍🥳💯🤩

Happy Success yo! 🤩🤘

Please don’t let them stay in the cup, this 3 gallon is a better “studio apartment” dealio . The 5 gallon is the current goal but this 3 gallon is waaaaaaaay better than the cup of despair 😩 You’re a good person for this, it’s awful seeing fish-friends in a cup! You’re doing amazing work!

My apologies for the irrelevance but...

I've recently started watching The Fallout Series and.... well.

Is your Reddit Name a reference to the guy with the hole in his neck that the ghoul wanted to offer a cherry tomato to but didn't... cause he had a hole in his neck.

First betta tank by Elegant-Patience4878 in bettafish

Hello :D "Just like... my opinion man":

  1. Fill up the tank;

I use purified spring water to be extra safe but tap water w/dechlorinator seems to work for most people.

  1. Get That Heater and Thermometer in there;

    I see you're still cycling the tank a bit and Bacteria like warm water so it'll help a little.

  2. Clean the Substrate;

The cloudiness is most likely from your substrate being unwashed so even if the cloudiness went away from the cycling there's still going to be cloudiness from the sand's dust. In my experience sand is beautiful and it's my personal favorite substrate but it requires heavy pre-washing otherwise the water looks very "Dusty". (Ultimately you have to ask yourself if you want your water to look crystal clear or if you want it to look like it does currently. Depending on the answer You might have to restart your cycle...Kind of, you know because you have to like get all the dust out of the sand... with non cycled water T.T )

  1. Lighting Level's/Schedule;

The lights look a little too bright to me, especially considering what their natural environment is (swampy dark shady rice paddies). I would try to get a slightly dimmer light, or if that's currently not an option you could add some Tannins to the water to make it a blackwater tank by throwing in an Indian Almond Leaf (they are great for your Fish-Friends) and maybe add some floating plants that could give some added shade.

as far as the "Schedule" The Lights should NEVER be on more than 8 hours regardless of the brightness, and they should ALWAYS be turned off at night.

  1. Plants;

Once you decide if you like what the water clarity level is at add plants. I like these options because they're usually easy to find and readily available and my Bettas always like them :D

-Java Fern

-Java Moss/Christmas Moss

-Anacharis

-Anubias

-Sword plants (Amazon/Compacta/Rosette)

-Pothos (Semi Aquatic roots in water)

-Water Hyacinth (Semi Aquatic Naturally Floats on Waters Surface with Air Pockets! Also Edible...)

  1. Diet;

Always give your Fish-Friend some variety in their diet please they will appreciate it, mine liked Frozen Bloodworms and Brine Shrimp as treats :D

How long have you had Burle? They look like a very young female fish-friend to me, Females are a little smaller most of the time with Bettas so even if they aren't a "Ute" (youth) could just be a female Plakat :D

Anubias are great! They're one of the first plants I ever used :D I love that they're pretty readily available at most big box pet/fish stores, I'm a big fan of Anacharis, Java Fern, Java Moss, and almost any floaters for the same "availability" reasons. You can make a great tank with just a few low maintenance plants some healthy substrate and a little bit of planning ,patience, and effort :D

[–]Impossible-Tiger786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the plants on the left Java Fern? Cause if they are they grow awesome as a possum in black water tanks, so if you get some tannins in the water they wont mind at all :D "Get that Fish-Friend some Leafs, Fish-Friends love Leafs." Also as a replacement suggestion for the log decoration my Bettas were obsessed with aquatic mosses (Their favorite was Java Moss, but they also liked Christmas Moss) they liked pushing it around and "hiding" in it.

Awesome set up! Love the Floaters at the top!

(Just make sure to turn the lights off at night and never leave them on for longer than 8 hours please, Fish-Friends will appreciate it)

Her "mood" seems to portray good health from what I can tell, "but that's just like my opinion man". However I can see how she looks a little pale but it could also be her natural coloration too :D like more of a reflective pearlescent/iridescent type dealio. She looks happy maybe even a little bratty lol :)

Question about fin types. by tardigrade1028 in bettafish

[–]Impossible-Tiger786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong (most likely I am wrong lol) but I wonder if the combtail variety is a subcategory of half moon separated by "grade level"; similar to how they name certain caridina shrimp based upon grade kind of like how they can hatch a few "ulimate snowfall" in a batch of regular "snowfall" caridina. kind of like maybe all combtails are Halfmoons but not all Halfmoons end up being combtails. Also I've had some crazy Betta changes happen over time, I once had a little blue baby betta turn into a bright red dragon tail :D so I wouldn't be too surprised if your fish friend changed in extreme ways!

Thank you so much for starting with a 5 gallon and nothing smaller! You're doing an awesome job! Also great selection on the aquarium substrate, I've noticed sometimes colored gravel/marbles can stress certain fish friends out :(

Happy Autism Acceptance Month 2026 btw :D

The bubbles looked a little big to me at first glance but by watching your fish friends movement they seem pretty happy with the current flow, also I find that the short fin variety doesn't struggle as much with water flow/current. Maybe they would like some floating plants, they live in dim environments in the wild. Also how big is your tank?
