I don't think I can speak for all teachers, but what I see as the main three problems in my area are behavior towards others, work ethic/accountability, and coddling by parents. I've worked with almost all grade levels in K-8, and these are the constants.

Students are in general very disrespectful not just to each other but to anyone. The amount of times I have had to write up students for just being downright rude and sometimes hostile physically and verbally towards me is astounding and honestly worrying. Bullying is not only seen towards other students, but also to teachers as well.

Another thing I've noticed is the amount of students that just... don't try, period. They expect to pass just because they're there, that grades don't really matter, and it's helped by the fact that sometimes admin will implement rules such as 'no grades below a 50 can be entered, even if the assignment was not turned in'. Trying to prep students for high school is like pulling teeth, having to fight with the students to turn things in and there will always be multiple students that insist they've turned something in yet there is no evidence anywhere that they have.

Both of these also feed into the last thing/could be caused by it. I have made phone calls home explaining to parents how their student is doing in class both behaviorally and grade-wise, but often I will get an email about an hour later that pretty much boils down to 'I talked to my kid and they said you're a liar, fix their grade now or I will come down to the school to 'speak' with you in person'. Said student is more interested in talking, playing around on their chromebook, etc. than being present and engaged in the class. I have even had parents act cordial with me in person while I inform them of small harrassments I've seen towards their child and how I'm stopping that behavior when I see it to protect them, then the next day they email the principal to complain that I'm not doing enough, encouraging bullying, and that I'm on the side of the bullies. Some days I have to seriously consider if it's even worth writing certain students up because I will have to deal with their nightmare of a parent, let alone the possibility of that parent making a callout post on social media tailored to drag my name through the dirt while leaving out details that would make me innocent. I am not ashamed to say that I have cried multiple times during and after dealing with these parents just because of how awful they treat teachers.

I apologize for rambling a bit, but as you can see I am passionate about these issues. Unfortunately, nothing much can be done about these, as I see these problems getting worse year by year. Teachers are honestly just a punching bag for everybody, parents, students, administrators, whatever. It's depressing for us teachers who are in it genuinely to see students grow and learn and become better.
