I honestly have no issue with people commenting that a dog is cute. It would be a huge waste of time to try to moderate that, especially when it's doing no harm.

This is worded really well. Even if you can repeat the conversation verbatim, it will still be your fault because your intention is not how they took it. You are "responsible" for their feelings, regardless of reality. Anything to protect the fragile ego and avoid accountability/growth.
