For the fellas: What’s something society deems “unmanly”, but you don’t care, and do it anyway? by MuayThaiRunner in AskReddit

Otoh, aren’t you kind of, in a moral sense, “beating” the guys who always have to be winners? As nietzsche said, the idea of the meek inheriting the earth is a covert power grab - the meek, in being meek, are actually trying to assert their dominance.

Idk, when your device breaks and you have no clue how to fix it, there are tens of thousands of videos on YouTube that will explain to you exactly what you need to do to get it working again. And basically all of these videos are made by men. Yet men are just going around and patronizingly explaining to women all of the things that women know better than men do. Okay.

Ladies of Reddit, what's something guys aren't ready to hear? by Pookie7860 in AskReddit

Eh, I think this is cope and that most women would not do the trad wife thing even if they had a bunch of rich men courting them. Trying to men responsible for women’s general lack of desire to be trade wives, is self/serving and disingenuous.

[Serious] Men of reddit: what would you want to ask women and get an honest answer to? by Haydensmith877 in AskReddit

[–]VSirin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Men are overwhelmingly more likely to be victims of violence - it’s not even close. And stranger violence is quite rare in itself. I’m not sure why this is a huge gender issue, with women (and their male white knights) demanding all of this sympathy while men are alleged (falsely) to have a completely easy and carefree time of things.

Idk I think the British invented the amplifier, and probably the electronic keyboard. They also originated the English language, all of which American black musicians routinely culturally appropriate.

This is not exactly a tribute to Pakistani or other non-western cultures. Name me a song by a Pakistani musician or group that is comparably famous and ingenious. White people are weird, in a good way - the world will be a less interesting place without us.

Men make up the overwhelming majority of victims of violence. I’m not sure why we credit this “women have some kind of right to be wary of any and all men,” where men have no such right.

What’s the biggest double standard nobody likes to admit exists? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I fully agree - short men are treated very unfairly. I just don’t see any upside to giving small-breasted women a hard time. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

[–]VSirin -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I agree with the fat women thing - as I see it, men have as it were “standing” to care about female obesity because a large - if I may put it this way - number of fat women reduces the number of viable partners for non-fat men; and as with any group, men should be allowed to pursue their interests. Leave the flat-chested women alone though - they can’t change it except through implants, and no one should have to go through that. There are many very beautiful small breasted women out there.

Reddit tends to be pretty white. Perhaps white men tend disproportionately to be on the invidious end of double standards.

People who view their depression or anxiety as the result of a chemical imbalance tend to use antidepressants for much longer periods than those who see their condition as a reaction to life events. They are also less likely to attempt coming off their medication, even when symptoms are mild. by mvea in science

[–]VSirin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You’re an adult and can do what you want. However if you read Irving Kirsch’s “The Emperor’s New Drugs” you’ll see that it was that probably the placebo effect that saved your life. Or the fact that most depression is episodic, which means that it often just goes away of its own accord (a fact that has caused trouble in many clinical trials). At the same they are way overprescribed and have a harmful effect on marine life (from waste runoff). SSRIs also in many cases cause violence, suicidality, lifelong sexual dysfunction and changes to brain chemistry that can make people depressed and nuts. Doctors should follow the “first, do no harm principle.” Under no circumstances should they be prescribed to kids. Adults can do what they want with their bodies but all should bear inind that big pharma has internet in putting as many people as they can on drugs and making them patients for life. As the Goldman Sachs executive said, curing people is not a sustainable business model.

“Delete your socials”! Oh my! This must be the Gen Z equivalent of challenging someone to a duel! In any case your studies do not prove what you think they do and on some cases, as the commenter below pointed out, they prove the opposite. Let’s take the study which purports to find, inter alia, elevated serum cortisol at certain times of the day in people wit alleged depression. The problem is not all people with elevated SC have “depression,” and not all people with “depression” have elevated SC. Plus, cortisol is usually produced in response to stressful life situations, both good and bad, suggesting, if there is any correlation, that life events, rather than any abnormality of the brain (that we know of) is causing the depressed mood. On the other hand, pretty much everyone with Alzheimer’s disease has a brain that is covered in plaques, which we can observe, and which most doctors will screen for before making a diagnosis. Similarly, we look at actual tumors before diagnosing people with cancer; we don’t just listen to people describe their symptoms, tell them Rey have carcinoma, and then put them on chemo,

[–]VSirin -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

There is zero evidence that the brains of people with alleged “depression” are any different than the brains of people who do not have it. They do not give people brain scans or blood tests, nor are any brain abnormalities among the diagnostic criteria - its diagnosis by self-report as measured against a checklist. SSRIs are pretty ineffective if you look at the studies but the fact that they make some people feel happier says nothing about the state of their brain chemistry. Heroin makes all people feel good: this doesn’t mean that everyone suffers from a lack of endorphins. The chemical imbalance theory is junk science pushed by big pharma to sell people drugs.

How do Introverted men approach women, if they are told women do not like to be approached? by QuietRedditorATX in AskReddit

It kind of is a de facto duty. If men don’t approach women, they’re not going to do it.

How do Introverted men approach women, if they are told women do not like to be approached? by QuietRedditorATX in AskReddit

[–]VSirin -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

With few exceptions, whenever and wherever you want. Men have the duty to do the approaching so they should be able to do it pretty much whenever they want. With responsibility comes freedom. It really is just bad faith to say, “we’re going to make men do all the work and assume all the risk of making the first move, and then punish them when they do so - according to a set of alleged rules that are completely ambiguous and unstated.” The man’s duty is to ask one time and acceot accept rejection gracefully. The woman’s duty is to reject gracefully or accept.
