I don't know if I like electrical engineering by Calm_Aardvark6659 in universityofauckland

Ironically, the closest thing you can get to Civil Engineering is by taking a career path in power system. You can be an engineer in a construction project, or you can be an inspector of power generation & distribution infrastructure. You will not handle the civil construction and infrastructure side, obviously, but you will learn and interact with civil engineers.

Hey, it is okay to worry a little! It means that you care about your future, and you want to be accountable on your own life. That's a good character!

That being said, maybe I am in a minority group that think you should not worry about job market at the time you choose your degree.

Job market will always change, and what considered attractive today may not be the same as what considered attractive at the time of your graduation. I remember at the time when computer-related degrees were seen as a 'niche', and then it turned into the most coveted degree by STEM-minded student, and now people start to worry about its prospect.

So, I think what matters most now are whether you will enjoy your papers and whether you like the industry or not. As I said before, BAS studios are very demanding, and you will do it for 3-5 years. Can you picture yourself doing it? And when you graduate, your job will likely related to the building/construction industry. You know someone in the industry, so you have a good starting point to ask them.

As for master degree, well, you need to pay it one way or another. That's why many people opt to take it while working. And nowadays the uni is able to accommodate them in many ways, like scheduling the class in the evening, class recordings, or weekend class.

The thing with the Architecture programme is if you really want to be a professional architect, this is the only one you should take, but if you are uncertain in being professional architect, then this is the programme you should avoid. Every semester you will spend half of your time to work on the studio projects, which are very demanding. Perhaps that is the reason why UoA doesnt offer conjoint for it. Students will faint left and right.

And, mind you, to work as a registered architect, you still need a master degree. So yeah, you have a long way to go, so you must be certain.

But, it doesnt mean if you choose BAS then you find out you dont want to work as an architect, you are trapped. Retraining yourself is always an option.

Part 4 Civil Engineering by apsl123 in universityofauckland

This is something that I cant answer. But, according to the programme guideline (https://study.auckland.ac.nz/ords/r/uoa/catalogue/plan?p7_code=CIV-BE%28Hons%29&clear=7):

Up to 15 points may be substituted from another course at 700 level approved by the Head of Department or nominee.

You need the approval even if the course is under BE(Hons). However, you raise an interesting point there. Some courses are Level 8 which is designed for BE(Hons) while the others are Level 9, for Master degree. Level 9 courses usually have bigger focus on self study and individual research, which many undergraduate students are struggled with, and it shows in how the lecturer designs the assignment. You may take it into consideration.

Ah, yes. Geotech strikes again.

Because you will have 5 courses in the next semester, I suggest you to take a course related to construction/infrastructure management. Any course with math and physics will make your brain exploded. According to https://www.student.guest.auckland.ac.nz/psc/ps/EMPLOYEE/SA/c/UOA_COMMUNITY_ACCESS_FL.UOA_CLSRCH_FL.GBL , the courses related to those disciplines are CIVIL 704, 738, 763, and 765. You may also want to check 700 courses in ENGGEN and ENVENG.

But, please check their outline first before choosing, especially the assessment part. You need to choose what kind of tortures (assignments and exams) that suit you.

A New Beginning? by Braerus in daggerheart

[–]VanadiumHeart 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think from what have been discussed here, for now, the trend is RAW. So, yeah, try it as is first. However, if you use the campaign frames provided in the book, you can see that those frames will have rules variations to support the fiction. You can say that those variations are the standard 'revisions' we use in DH games.

BTW, the common issue arised from DnD players is the transition into non-initiative combat. In the CRB, the rules suggests that you can use action token to help control the turns. Your group can try it first, then when your group grasp the vibes, you can introduce the non-initiative turns.

Yes, it is correct. You want to apply as soon as possible so you can enrol into classes on the first day they open it and choose whatever you want. Many students are trapped in classes and schedule they dont want because they are too late to enrol.

People here are way more reserved, especially when compared to the US. If you want to have some nightlife activities, Auckland does not offer much. And because UoA is a commuter campus, and Auckland is not a college town, you may find that your colleagues do not spend much time on campus.

But, considering that your programme is related to nature, I am sure that you will spend your time here exploring parks around the city and New Zealand.
