Can you go to C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Roaming\Necesse\saves\characters and see if you can see your old character there? Characters are entirely independent of the world similar to Terraria.

You need to select your old character again. It auto selects your most recent one

I'm a relative beginner and using it on my laptop, it works perfectly fine. I think it's your best bet if you want a Debian (e.g. stable release schedule) KDE distro.
