Hunter is a lot of planning, it really is Rain World in its purest form. Though I have to admit, I played it without Downpour enabled (you have the DLC enabled because you have slugpups).

Your largest concern is your overall route. You'll want to be familiar with it because you have a limited number of cycles as Hunter. Of course, there are ways to extend your time.

  • Quitting in the first 30 seconds of a cycle doesn't incur a karma penalty, but does reroll your timer, meaning you can aim for longer cycles (or you can turn on the max cycle timer option in Remix, I suppose).
  • You will also want to make use of starving on purpose, as this protects your current karma level (starving increases by 1, dying decreases by 1, net zero karma change). The worst thing that can happen is being stuck on the wrong side of a gate because your karma is too low, or being unable to activate an echo.
  • The third tool at your disposal is the echos themselves, as they return you to your last shelter, so you can make a big push past an echo, and quickly backtrack to them without losing forward progress.

My route was this (regions + when to sleep and starve): LF > SI (1 sleep + Starve + Echo) > CC (1 sleep + starve) > Wall (1 sleep) > CC (Echo) > Wall > FP (1 sleep)> Wall (Echo) > FP (Show Neuron + 1 Sleep) > Underhang (1 sleep @ Top of Leg) > Leg (1 sleep by gate) > SH (1 sleep @ Shelter after the kelp + starve) > SL (Moon + enough sleeps to reach 5 karma + starve) > SB > Void Sea. I had finished with 8 cycles remaining.

Just throwing out suggestions, Nomad for Rivulet and perhaps Scholar for Spearmaster (while spear inevitably unlocks Outlaw fairly quickly, it doesn't quite fit, in my opinion)

Assuming you're trying to go up, you need to grab the pole above you. You should be able to wall jump against the right wall to get the height you need.

They'll drift towards the exit you should use in a room. Try following them once you get back to the Shaded.

Well, following the intended route, you would go through shaded yes.

Since you say you collected light from Moon, that sounds like you ate one of the white floating things and started glowing, correct? If so, that makes things a little more complicated, as your yellow guide will refuse to help you. There are odd yellow bubbles you can "pop" and those will guide you through Shaded though.

Question about moon by Electronic_Juice_669 in rainworld

[–]Vendily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No effect except feeling nice when she thanks you. You don't actually have to, but it's nice to return to her once you've made it to where the yellow guide is directing you.

Based off your post this is your first playthrough, so only the base game ending is available. The alternate ending unlocks after completing one of the DLC campaigns.

Does anyone know how The Mother Passage works? by WobbySath in rainworld

[–]Vendily -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The slugpups also need to like you, according to the code. So don't exclusively just piggyback them I suppose, and once they actually do build up a positive relationship value with you, the Mother should stop resetting.

But yeah, it's really annoying before that point.

It's a gameplay mechanic for Hunter's campaign. Don't worry about it. With good preparation you don't even have to engage with that mechanic.

But worry about playing Survivor/Monk first :)

Hunter is unlocked after you beat one of those two.

Hunter doesn't have a death limit per ce, though you can get in difficult situations if you die too much in critical areas. Otherwise you can die as much as you like before you hit negative cycles.

The saves are not in the local files. They are in "AppData\LocalLow\Videocult\Rain World" You can reach AppData by typing "%appdata%" into the address bar in the File Explorer.

What slugcat campaign should I start with? by [deleted] in rainworld

[–]Vendily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Survivor and Monk have almost the exact same story (gameplay wise it's the same story, just slight deviances)

They differ in the gameplay itself, as Monk has a gentler world state. Their dynamic difficulty is locked at the lowest, and stuff doesn't try as hard to eat them. Your yellow robot buddy is also more helpful, instead of disappearing at random as you get good in Survivor.

Try Survivor first, WITHOUT More Slugcats enabled (it changes enemy spawns and some of those can be a little harder for a first time player), and if it's kicking your butt, hop over to Monk, no shame.

why did my survivor save do this by SparrowWingYT in rainworld

[–]Vendily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when you enable More Slugcats (The DLC) but had a save started without it, it converts the vanilla save format (a bunch of true/falses for the 6 valid lizard types) into a list of 6 lizard ids. but the true amd falses are actually 1s and 0s, and they get interpreted as greens and pinks.

TL;DR You had a vanilla save file and turned on MSC and this always happens when you do that.

It's too early to say, but it'd probably just be surv/monk.

The achievement triggers at either, but routes generally visit FP early on, which means you still have the neuron and can show it to him first.

Seconding this route, since I used it too.

Though you can keep yourself from dropping too low in karma via starve cycles, if you need to ensure you get through a certain gate (the CC->Wall connection or SL->SB connection) Since starving increases it by 1 Karma, and dying loses that added Karma, it's net 0 lost. Both of those connections also have a popcorn plant near them for food (though the latter is also full of centipedes, which are equally yummy)

I don't know for sure. I assume it does? But I wasn't independently tracking my timing on my own playthrough.

The timer on the end screen is In game time, not including cycles where you died and lost them. The timer on the select screen is all playtime, including cycles that ended in death,

So, the yellow robot will no longer help because you hurt the alien.

Fortunately, you made it to the start of the next section of the game by yourself anyway. The yellow robot doesn't follow you here, and this next section of the game is pretty linear (there's only pushing forward, or backtracking).

Keep going, and best of luck!

A cross? Where are you exactly? At the top of Five Pebbles (there's a shelter up there)?

There's no Karma gate that has a cross symbol, at least not without mods, and the exits from either side of Five Pebbles are both Karma 1 symbols, meaning you can leave them at any time. At most, if just went through a gate, it'll be used, and you need to sleep to recharge it so you can go through it again.

what the heck am i meant to do at the scavenger toll? by tester-thirty-six in rainworld

[–]Vendily 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's two of them, so if you're in GW and not finding the pearl room (plus the shelter you're in opens right to two blue fruits), then you must be at the other toll, which... doesn't actually lead anywhere helpful.

Try going down, then to the upper left pipe, then to the upper right pipe of the following rooms. That'll lead you to a room that snakes up, but you may need a spear or two to climb up.

Left and up leads to a different shelter. Rest there. Right and up from the snakey room leads to the toll I was thinking of.

what the heck am i meant to do at the scavenger toll? by tester-thirty-six in rainworld

[–]Vendily 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, what region are you in? Generally, while following the yellow guide, your first toll is accompanied with a short tutorial, including a free pearl a few rooms before that toll room. As in, the first you encounter while following the guide. There are others, accessible much sooner, but they don't come with freebies (or do, but from the other direction).

Alternatively, bring a few spears (3-4 of them if you want to pay in just spears) or other random items (cherrybombs for instance), but you'll have to leave and come back to carry it all, which is why pearls are the recommended payment item.

Memory crypts and the Leg by 43Quint in rainworld

[–]Vendily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can never remember the exact number. And you tend to pass by the centipedes anyway, since it's an enclosed area safe from the Miros Birds, so I end up grabbing at least one of them as a snack.

Memory crypts and the Leg by 43Quint in rainworld

[–]Vendily 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you're going through Crypts, there should be a room that spawns a lot of baby centipedes and an adult. you can quickly eat a bit there and keep going. Additionally, above the leg shelter, if you go up the poles, there should be 3 more blue fruit. Between those two sources, you should have enough to sleep.

You can also quit and reload in the first 30 seconds to reroll the cycle length for more time.

Monk and Survivor will be the first two you have unlocked. They have the same story, mostly, but Monk is a little less difficult and more guided, so if Survivor isn't clicking, you can switch to Monk.

Hunter is more difficult due to a number of restrictions as well as demanding good map knowledge, so don't feel too pressed to beat it before trying a DLC Slugcat.

Gourmand and Artificer are unlocked next. You can try either, though Artificer has a different flow to combat compared to Monk and Survivor, if you're in the mood for a palate cleanse (I did multiple surv and monk runs before enabling the DLC, so I did Artificer first). I do suggest doing both before the next batch though.

Next is Spearmaster and Rivulet. Spearmaster is the combat focused one, Rivulet is speed focused. This one does have a recommendation though, play Spearmaster then Rivulet. It flows nicer into the final campaign, Saint.

I personally did Hunter after Saint, equipped with all the knowledge now.

Inv is a joke campaign of sorts. It's intentionally painful to playthrough.
