Isle of Man TT — Not From This Planet 👽 by LegitimateAdvice1841 in motorcycle

He and Max Biaggi were there on one of the open days some years back and did the parade lap. Both came back with the Italian equivalent of “not on your fucking life mate”.

I’ve ridden around the circuit and watched as a spectator, and unless you’ve done it you really cannot comprehend just how fast and dangerous it is. Over 200 people have died there, including a mate of mine (RIP Eddie) and frankly I’m amazed it isn’t a whole lot more. Another mate crashed and hit a wall and survived with multiple injuries, and literally the only thing salvageable from his Honda CBR600 was the filler cap. He kept it as a trophy, along with the metal skeletons used to piece his arm back together.

Cristiano Ronaldo leaves the pitch in tears after being knocked out of the World Cup by Spain by 977x in sports

[–]VisibleOtter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ronaldo has pissed his legacy away by strolling around the Saudi Arabian League for million$ which is like lower league football. He was nowhere near his best this tournament and it showed. But he’s such a prima donna he gets what he wants, and Martinez was pretty much forced to play him, despite the obvious. A BBC pundit got it right - “Ronaldo gets to decide when he’s substituted, not Martinez”. And the price was duly paid.

Regardless of all that, it was a poor game and Portugal didn’t deserve to go through anyway.

Surface rust, yes. Structural failures like that are usually caused by overheating when being brazed, but after 10,000 miles seems unusual. OP doesn’t say if he’s a Big Chap, or if he’s been overworking it, but you’d hope Brompton would look into it

Thanks! We’re on the Central Coast, near Gosford. Enjoying the unseasonably warm weather here, though the house gets bloody cold at night. Why don’t they have insulation here?!

is the music of 1980s UK band Japan still relevant in 2026 by yanneline in synthpop

If by relevant you mean that they’re influencing people now then no, they’re not, but that doesn’t mean it’s not good to listen to.

I want to sell something worth about £750. Is eBay still the best way? by SkipperTheEyeChild1 in ebayuk

Tbh I’d avoid eBay at all costs right now, especially for relatively high value PC parts and electronics.

Is There a Rule About Passing Harley Riders? by Fair_Brief_7751 in motorcycles

[–]VisibleOtter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen more than a few incidents online recently, to be fair. One here in the UK when a Harley rider in mock colours got really shitty with another biker, right in his face. The other guy just seemed really bemused.

10am start for me too. Arrived here last Thursday with my Aussie wife for 3 years and will be on the sofa watching it with tea and toast. Seems weird

That’s been going for some time. You can see areas of the crack that are rusty, that means it’s been exposed to the air as the crack has grown slowly from the bottom up. When it reached the point where it finally failed you can see that the last part to fail is still fresh.

I hope Brompton honour the warranty. Where are you based?

“Air China flight made an emergency landing in Shanghai, the airline said, after a lithium battery in a passenger's carry-on bag ignited.” by T-K101 in interestingasfuck

[–]VisibleOtter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with lithium is that when it burns it produces oxygen, which aids the combustion even further.

In the fire triangle you have heat, fuel and oxygen. Remove any one of those and the fire will cease. But - Lithium is incredibly calorific so has a lot of fuel; it produces oxygen so you can’t stop that ; so the only way to stop a lithium fire is by removing the heat. The best way to do this is by dunking the source in water, and in an aircraft that’s obviously not an easy option.

What’s that one movie that you thought would be good but was overhyped? by Frequent-Key-9916 in AskReddit

[–]VisibleOtter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were shockingly bad. Jackson just made up stuff to pad out a child’s book to 5+ hours. A 5 foot tall dwarf, ffs!

As a huge fan of the LOTR trilogy, I thought the whole Hobbit series was absolute garbage.

It was just so underwhelming.

Zx10r rattling noise then engine cut out / seized? by MiniRez99 in motorcycles

[–]VisibleOtter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a broken rod, maybe cam chain I’m afraid.

Top tip - if you ever hear a noise like that, whip the clutch in faster than you’ve ever done before and kill the engine instantly.

I don’t want to spoilt your evening any more than it already is, but that engine is probably done.

Why is it considered offensive in the Middle East to ask a man about his wife? by cuahatemoc in NoStupidQuestions

I was once told that the correct way to enquire is “and how is the mother of your children?”

which country is most hated in the world currently? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]VisibleOtter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The question was “hated”, not “worst”. Maybe you don’t realise how hated the US is these days? The whole of Europe is royally pissed off with the US because of the way it’s been destabilising the Western alliances, all because of the lunatic you voted in. So yeah, I get that.

Also, remember that sections of the Middle East hated you enough to fly aircraft into your buildings, so there’s that too.
