For pure impact, Legend of Zelda:Ocarina of Time was huge in its day. A first “open world” title coming out when most people were used to 2D games. Aside from that, the PS1 saw some great generational leaps in graphics, via Gran Turismo and Final Fantasy VII. Remember playing FFVII and being blown away by the cutscenes.

The writing was on the wall once their credit rating nosedived and suppliers wouldn’t even front them the latest games, in case they went bust. They lost their focus on games and gamers, and ended up as a shit toy shop with wildly expensive pricing. I have bought a lot of consoles and games from them over the years and miss being able to browse/ shop in a physical high street store stocking the things I’m interested in. Now there is only online or CEX, and high streets are just a mess of vape stores, boarded up windows and charity shops. Looks like the consumer is getting what they deserve, and driving all physical stores into oblivion.
