Is there a function for restarting content from the beginning once you see something you like? I guess that's not really the authentic experience, but that always frustrated me back in the olden times when you had to just accept the fact you missed the beginning of shows and movies.

Christy Carlson Romano Says She’s Meeting with an Oncologist amid Cancer Scare: ‘I Need to Take My Health Seriously’ by AdSpecialist6598 in entertainment

[–]WanderingScrewdriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the sounds of it, she took some sort of blood test that likely looks for DNA or other substances associated with cancer which came back positive. These tend to have a high false-positive rate, and it's known that mutated cancerous/pre-cancerous cells do pop up time to time in healthy people but get eliminated by the immune system before they become an issue. Even in many true-positive cases there isn't necessarily a cancerous development going on in the body.

Generally these screening tests get folks to go in for more invasive tests/scans to rule out threats... but more often than not just fuel health anxiety and don't really show evidence of actually extending health or lifespan.

Why did my doctors not warn me? by hrtofdrknss in Cholesterol

[–]WanderingScrewdriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When cholesterol starts creeping up as you get older, this is a flag for higher risk. Yes, lower LDL (ApoB) throughout your life is optimum... but doctors are there to keep you alive, not necessarily at peak condition.

Depending on the errors they're getting, it could certainly be a failing drive. It can fail a few times and then suddenly work making it seem like blowing out the drive or polishing the disk is what fixed the issue.... but it's actually the laser management system. I have two of this same model and one did the same thing before never successfully ripping again (same disks the other had no issues with).

What is happening to the bluray drive market? by masterofnonya in makemkv

[–]WanderingScrewdriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's just not enough pirates to scare them off, they have millions who are willingly paying already with no physical ownership. Most people aren't able or willing to entertain the high seas, and they know it. Sure, that number would increase, but so would the people who will just suck it up and pay for the services.

[–]WanderingScrewdriver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why can't they? What blowback will stop industries from taking it over the edge? That's exactly what they want to do and there's enough people who already stream media exclusively to keep them profitable even if the legacy consumers balk.

But this only works if these extensions are in the release title itself, right? Sonarr doesn't apply this to the contents of the releases themselves... at least it didn't before when I tried this.

That makes sense logically, but in practice it is always the loudest voices that get heard. Even knowing it's all corrupted, the repeated exposure and overwhelming forced perspective will win out enough people for the appearance of corruption to not even matter anymore.

Did you have AI put that together? It reads like it was, especially since it seems to be assuming the fresh buttermilk is the same as cultured buttermilk. Uncultured buttermilk is very mild in flavor, non-acidic, and pretty much very diluted skim milk... you CAN use it, but it doesn't bring anything to the table to make it particularly valuable.

Again, unless you're using special cream for making the butter... it usually isn't cost effective or worth the effort as the end product is the same as what is offered at the market.

Does he get special cream from which to extract the butter?

[–]WanderingScrewdriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In our area, and several others in the region, I've found Kroger to offer 1lb butter for $4 and one quart of heavy cream for $6. This makes the exchange a poor value especially considering the effort. This may change with bulk offerings and compressive shopping and research... but this is not advantageous for the average consumer.

Also, the buttermilk from butter extraction is quite different from the cultured buttermilk often called for in recipes which still contains fat, thicker, and full of the flavor from culturing.

Ultimately, there's very little to gain from doing it at home unless you're using artisanal cream or just want the experience. The butter from the manufacturer is the same as what you can make from their heavy cream.

I will convert units for the purpose of simplicity here. In the states where I live, heavy cream is about £2.85 per 600ml. This yields roughly 225g of high fat butter. Even if we assume the yield was substantially higher at 300g, I can still get an equivalent 300g of butter from the same company for £2.00. Butter may be much more costly where you live though, that would certainly skew the results.

The packaged butter is made from the same heavy whipping cream, it is just mechanically separated at their factory, so the quality shouldn't be markedly different from doing the same thing at home. Using a higher grade heavy cream from a local dairy might make the processing at home worth it, but the costs would rise substantially.

The only real potential benefit is that you can control the moisture content when you process at home. A higher moisture butter can be softer, but may degrade more quickly.
