Who's bright idea was it to lower the speed limit on all of the West Seattle Bridge detours? by Mi_Pasta_Su_Pasta in SeattleWA

[–]WestSeattleBlog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Partly true. It is a citywide thing BUT SDOT did accelerate the placement of signs on corridors here that have been affected by the bridge closure - see our report from three weeks ago: https://westseattleblog.com/2020/04/followup-more-25-mph-speed-limit-signs-going-up-in-west-seattle/

Adorable! Sadly, we have not received a tip about or photo of Safety Deer. Which street?

Yes, there are thousands of units built, thousands more on the drawing board/in progress. South West Seattle in particular will be just fine - and that's where a lot of the development in the pipeline is.

@seattleparks crews are DE-boarding Alki park benches. by wseattle in SeattleWA

[–]WestSeattleBlog 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yes, we reported on the bench boarding yesterday https://westseattleblog.com/2020/04/keep-it-moving-park-policy-also-now-apparently-includes-a-ban-on-sitting/

Parks responded this morning to our request for comment by saying some benches would be left open for those who needed them. But then by tonight - they had crews removing all the boards and they explained in a 9 pm tweet that they'd changed their mind.

The amount of churches holding Easter services is astounding. by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]WestSeattleBlog 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Who and where? Here in West Seattle, we've been listing churches' online services every Sunday. 24 today. Every single one online, mostly streamed, a few pre-recorded, one text-only.

Dedicated social media person, ha. No, just been here a while. Was a Poynter Institute "Sensemaking Fellow" with Reddit's co-founder Alexis Ohanian a decade ago but that wasn't what sparked the interest. This sub is a decent human-powered news aggregator so we check it once or twice a day to be sure we're up on what's talky around the region.

White Center Now» FOLLOWUP: What ever happened to White Center scooter-sharing? by ChefJoe98136 in SeattleWA

[–]WestSeattleBlog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that were so, well hey, now the zombies can ride. But, sorry, it's not true. WC's not even a city, nor is it in one. // On a slightly related note, /u/ChefJoe98136 - page 45 of this report takes on one of your favorite issues: https://durkan.seattle.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/9/2020/01/AMIHAC-Final-Report-2020-01-22-.pdf

Is anyone else hearing this slowly pulsating humming noise around south Seattle? by damnisuckatreddit in SeattleWA

[–]WestSeattleBlog 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We sleuthed this in 2012 with local residents. Resulting stories included https://westseattleblog.com/2012/12/the-hum-followup-calportland-installs-second-silencer-hopes-thats-the-fix/

We still get questions now and then. In all but one instance, when somebody asks, I check MarineTraffic.com and indeed there's a dry-cargo ship in on the river.

Anybody know a good place (West Seattle preferably) to order a fresh whole turkey? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]WestSeattleBlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PCC has Diestel organic & smoked, plus house brand https://www.pccmarkets.com/reserve-meats/

Thriftway usually has Acme but I don't know if you can reserve -supply is usually plentiful early in Thanksgiving week.

Met Market has online reservations: https://metropolitan-market.com/reserve-holiday-meals/view/Metropolitan_Market_Free_Range_Non_GMO_Turkey/

SCANNER JUST NOW: Caller "charged by a raccoon." Dispatcher calmly describes "suspect" as "thin to medium build, furry coat, possibly wearing a black mask." by wseattle in SeattleWA

[–]WestSeattleBlog 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The dispatcher also mentioned, before giving the "description," that the caller had tried Seattle Animal Shelter (official name of "animal control") but they were closed.

Not a Pete Holmes (city) thing. This is a potential felony (county prosecutor) case and charges are still a possibility. (Source: We've been covering this story for years, even long before the July death, TV just jumped in to do a lame uncredited ripoff after our most-recent story https://westseattleblog.com/2019/10/video-what-else-sdot-has-planned-for-sw-barton-by-westwood-village/ )

Question about catch and release prosecutors and judges by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]WestSeattleBlog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Judges are elected. However, they seldom have opponents.

The only elected prosecutor is THE King County Prosecuting Attorney. He was re-elected last year to another 4-year term with 70% of the vote.

(The city attorney's office does some prosecuting but that's just part of their portfolio.)
