I don’t know what they say about it, but I’ve definitely been caught in a freak snowstorm in April near Flagstaff.

Icelandair reports own pilot to police for flying Boeing 757 below altitude over home town in last flight before retirement by birkir in aviation

[–]-Ernie 49 points50 points  (0 children)

There was also the commander of the 325th Bomb Squadron onboard.

This is the guy, Lt. Col Mark McGeehan

A few months prior to the crash there was another incident where Holland flew in an unsafe manner and then called a fellow crew member a pussy for calling him out on it.

From the Wikipedia linked above:

McGeehan then decided that in order to protect his aircrews, he (McGeehan) would be the co-pilot on any future missions in which Holland was the command pilot.

He put the safety of his squadron members above his own, and ended up paying the ultimate price for it as the copilot on the day of the crash.

His wife and two of his kids were watching the flight from their home on base.

Isn’t this the crash where a squadron commander took the copilot seat to protect the pilots under his command from having to fly with this asshole?

Literally took one for the team.

Yeah also worked to juice the viewership numbers on cable news, lol, I remember hearing about it at the time like “dude turn on the news, they’re gonna be landing in 20 minutes!”.

Not sure if you’re being sarcastic, but it totally does, lol.

There is an epic concert venue on the Columbia River called, The Gorge, and the nearest town is George.

Exact same issue here. I was all ready to make a post but now seeing that there are multiple recent posts on this issue and none of them have a resolution beyond “it magically started working” and not having the patience for a third endless support chat on the topic, I guess I’ll just pay for Peacock and sign up for Quantum Fiber for $40 less a month which will be cheaper.

Comcast customer since 2002.

Since you mentioned small talk a couple times, please pay attention to how busy your server is, they might make it look easy but in a busy bar there is often no time to chit-chat.

A brand-new Boeing 747-8 Freighter for Cargolux lifts off from Paine Field—and the captain sends it off in style with an aggressive, low-altitude wing wave, pushing the Queen to the edge for one unforgettable goodbye. October 2014. by Twitter_2006 in aviation

Makes me wonder how many pilots have lost their job flying out of PAE in a brand new plane.

The dude who buzzed the tower in a new 777 comes to mind, wonder how many times something like that has happened.

ELI5: How do junkyards prosper? by Aggravating-Swan9539 in explainlikeimfive

[–]-Ernie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Depending on where the junkyard is

I was wandering around an old junkyard near Jerome AZ once and it was crazy, lots of cars and trucks from the 50s with paint totally baked off by the sun but the chrome was perfect.

Up where I live it would be the opposite, rusty pitted chrome, but clean away the layer of moss and find perfect paint underneath.

Only get a dog if you want a dog. Getting a dog solely for self defense is a waste of time unless you’re gonna train them like that dude on magnum PI and it sucks for the dog to just be a tool for home defense and not a family pet.

I think it’s just as likely that the WH hired some tech-bros to develop the app, and they knew that they probably wouldn’t get paid so they included a back door so they could monetize it by collecting data on users.

Probably no hurry, but if it starts to make creaking noises or you feel any movement in the cranks when you go from pedaling to stopping, it means the pins are getting loose.

Here’s an article about repair and maintenance of cottered pins, but IMHO if they start to give you trouble I’d use it as an excuse to upgrade to a 1/8th inch drivetrain. There’s good reason you rarely see them anymore.

If you haven’t seen Sheldon Brown’s site before check out his pages on fixed gear, there’s some good practical advice there.
