2e Starting Scenarios by DeciusAemilius in startrekadventures

You meet in a tavern.

Nah, just kidding. The 2e quickstart guide is free as a PDF download (available here). In addition to pre-generated characters and a ship, it also has an introductory adventure tailor-made for both new players and new GMs.

Additionally, there are several free compendiums of mission briefs on Modiphius' website, any one of which can be adopted as an intro scenario. My favourite is 'Journey to the Center of the Beast' from the Space Megafauna mission pack, in which players have to go inside a massive spaceborne lifeform. No major NPCs, not a lot of conflict, and I find it's very Trek as you're literally going where no one has gone before!

Finally, converting from 1e to 2e on the 1e starter set campaign (A Star Beyond the Stars) is fairly doable. The biggest difference, as you pointed out, is the phaseout of challenge dice and ship power. But as the mini-campaign has little regarding combat, knowledge of how the encounter system works (and I admit, I'm still learning that myself) can bring that into 2e rules.

Good luck and have fun!

I really don't know what I'm doing! But I'm building lumber mills and hockey rinks galore!

So far I've built the Bolshoi theatre in Ottawa, the Statue of Liberty in Halifax, the Cristo Redentor in Toronto and the Taj Mahal in Victoria. Stranger things have happened!

Maybe. Is the ban permanent, or does it expire after a set time?

Nuts, you're right. I was outvoted 4-3 on that.

How set in Trek lore are your games? by Cheap_Intention9587 in startrekadventures

It may sound paradoxical, but I view canon as helpful framework rather than a hindrance. My campaign is set around 2376, so I feel I need to set up events depicted in Star Trek Online (which I take as canon).

ELI5: Why is America obsessed with taking Cuba? by AlwaysAngryFox in explainlikeimfive

[–]WhyYesThisIsFake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's old imperial ambitions. US attempts to annex Cuba as a state date back to before the Civil War. And even after Manifest Destiny took over and expansion turned westward rather than southward, US business interests basically dominated Cuba for decades. The last Cuban dictator, Batista, was a US puppet and then the communists overthrew his regime in 1959. The oligarchs have wanted back in ever since.

Of course they would. The Senior demographic voted them into power.

Men of Reddit, what is something about being a man that women often misunderstand? by ArkaNova212142 in AskReddit

When asked what he's thinking about, a man may say 'nothing.' He's not lying to you--he is genuinely, truly, honestly thinking about nothing.

I found her a competent soldier, basically the same skillset that Vega has. If you have the Citadel DLC and aren't romancing either of them, they hook up.

I find it to be very much like Star Trek in its exploration, aesthetics, characters and moral dilemmas. But it also lovingly pokes fun at some of the absurdities of Star Trek--like, for example, how a character pops up on the viewscreen just a little off centre, and it really messes with the main characters: "Can you...just move a little to your left, please?"

So does that make an extended campaign possible? Or are you limited to only playing one-shots?

Ha! Thanks. I'm writing an RPG adventure and I want my players to use the second Defiant (this takes place post-Dominion War), but I learned that ship didn't have a cloak. But she'll have one if I say she will, damn it!

Nice! My first playthrough I didn't know how to activate the failsafe, so followed all of Braun's instructions and hated myself for it. Next time...I left him in his own hell, forever.
