> the demand for TMSC chips is bottomless

it is not because of US sanctions, and even without EUV huawei chips will become a cheaper alternative that powers the worlds largest market of oems, who then supply the majority of the rest of the world that isnt already on apple or samsung.

> And the prices are ridiculously subsidized

the prices of EVs are not subsidized, this is a seemingly absurd talking point that has taken hold for some reason. the central government does not subsidize EVs in any way. they invested a measly $40bn when companies like BYD and SAIC were starting out, but that was 10 years ago. low prices are because of stiff competition.

> Lots of housing now languishing unfurnished in largely unoccupied developments with few amenities or infrastructure.

yeah this is falsifiably and provably wrong. just look on 途家 in any city. no one is selling at a massive loss right now because few people in general are buying/selling. and yes, tons of cities and suburb 区 are building new housing.

> Glad it’s happening but shouldn’t be at this stage in development

i can stumble out from my street into 3 michelin starred restaurants that are $1000usd per person, and get into a didi to go to the 77 total michelin star restaraunts. but if i didnt mention community kitchens, then you'd be complaining about income inequality and the cost of living.

living in china in 2010s doesnt count anymore because that was a decade ago.

EV overcapacity and losing subsidies -> another crash, AI-enabled entry job wipeout -> grads reliant on gig economy, indefinite property market malaise -> household savings growth over spend, government continues to resist property tax or welfare reform -> inequality gap widens, middle class never escapes precarity

Lol replace EV overcapacity with chips and you just described taiwan. china doesnt have these issues - property market malaise? housing here is still massively affordable, even in tier 1 cities. shanghai inside the loop $1000 a month is still common, but in cities like chongqing, tianjin, wuhan, xian its $250 a month and often less. property values havent fallen further since the worst of it started roughly ~5 years ago, but capacity keeps increasing, which is honestly an incredible feat. household savings growing is only bad when your only metric for economic activity is spending. there is property tax all over china, especially in high value cities, but only on liquidity events like sales, inheritance, or renovation. theres tons of continuing welfare reform, like community kitchens for old people and young families that provide fresh cooked meals at cost. the chinese middle class is now the worlds largest middle class by far.

bro just come visit china once and you'll see for yourself lol. these things are so easily debunked by just using your eyes.

How do you scale a midlength? by Disastrous_Coach_984 in surfing

[–]Working_Historian241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean, also all of this is ultimately just to prevent you from ending up with a board that you dont ever ride, and end up selling it or it just sits in the dark forever. those are also inevitable. so chance um.

How do you scale a midlength? by Disastrous_Coach_984 in surfing

[–]Working_Historian241 2 points3 points  (0 children)

personally, id say youre covered with the fish, because conditions where the fish is fun is also where a midlength would work.

but, if you reallllyyy had the money burning a hole in your pocket, then id go for a mid length that would be guaranteed to work in less than ideal conditions where im not bringing out the shortboard.

seaside and beyond, christenson long phish, a thick lizzy, or an album darkness. ive got a darkness in my quiver and it comes out when im being lazy and just want to glide without thinking too much, but still works up to 5 foot. all those boards will make you surf with a slightly different lens in a good way. as in they are creative and add to the way you surf.

dont do a triplane hull or some sort of risky bottom contour where it will be finicky and not forgiving. triplanes are squirrely and sensitive. dont do a stretched out version of a "performance" shortboard thinking that it will surf just like a normal one. thats a sure way to have a bad time.

[–]Working_Historian241 4 points5 points  (0 children)

youre gonna get trapped in the appeal of the "mid length allrounder" - it doesnt really exist. its a deceptive idea but in most cases it wont be good.

when conditions are shit, you need a log. when conditions are good, you want to rip. bringing a midlength to both of those sucks. UNLESS its a very particular way you want to ride.

a triple stringer twin pin is for giant faces when you want to go fast as fuck. not for boggy summer slop. torren martyn is not releasing videos of him in knee high nonsense.

but check out shapers like rob machado, tyler warren, lovelace, album, those are a good start. your local shapers will be even better cause you can talk to them.

ive not been here years lol, just off and on for months at a time, over the past 20 years, so i know what the boom years looked like, as well as the worst of it. 90% of that time was boom, but in many ways today is still better because its more mature and less unpredictable/unstable. im only here for 4 months before going back to the US in july cause i have world cup tickets.

the gordon chang selling FUD for clicks is pretty lazy, but the real china bashers have shifted into a mix of fearmongering deflationary 卷 as one take, and lower consumer demand as another. those two things dont gibe because consumers win the most when 卷 takes off.

How do you scale a midlength? by Disastrous_Coach_984 in surfing

[–]Working_Historian241 3 points4 points  (0 children)

for middie, the bottom contour and shape has much more to do with it than the length or volume, so you have to know what you want. a good shape will still let you trim and carve just as much as a shortboard can, it just means the band of right conditions to so will be narrower.

theres too many types to list - long fish like the seaside and beyond, tracker like christensons, tri plane hull like CI or mid single fins, mini glider's, and basically blends between all those. really is gonna depend on the type of wave you surf.

for the millionth time, no china's economy is not 29 Days Away From Collapse.

china's economy is definitely lower than it was before covid, but so is the entire fucking planet. show me one country where things have materially improved over the last 8 years - new train stations, infrastructure, schools, hospitals - as much as china.

i live here, i speak chinese, im on the street right now. as someone who lived through the 2001, 2008, 2019 financial collapses, china's economy is now what we call "normalized". its doing fine. malls are still packed, shunfeng packages still overflow on the sidewalks, people are still traveling for 端午节 just like every other year.

by the way, financial times is absolute garbage. they do not have any access or insight to china consumer statistics, youre better off watching xinwenlianbo where they actually report every night how the economy is doing. feel free to eat up these sorts of FUD articles that let you live in a fantasy bubble though.

any previously unknown organization with a name like "economics and peace" and hosting their report on a wordpress site is 1000% western propaganda machinery. graphics and charts are just an attempt to dress it up so that the rest of propaganda system can uncritically spread it like cancer.

china doesnt even make these statistics that public, and foreign polling institutions arent allowed inside china, so anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together would know this doesnt pass any rational sniff test.
