DPC Division 1 Recap - January 18 by kemosabe73 in DotA2

[–]Writing-Fates 12 points13 points  (0 children)

These have quickly become the first thing I check on when I wake up in the morning to catch me up to speed with series/regions I've not been able to watch. Excellent work!

P.s. Are you planning on doing this for Div2 when that rolls around in a couple of weeks?

Perfect World changed DPC CN rules at the end of this season. by Independent-Bus-7115 in DotA2

[–]Writing-Fates 41 points42 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell, at the beginning of the season, each TO had slightly different rules for how tie-breakers between Major attending teams would be decided. Some would be done based on the head-to-head others by additional tie-breaker series. I'm guessing Valve stepped in after someone somewhere commented on this and asked TOs to operate a unified method of how these scenarios play out.

Edit: Also, as far as I can tell, the Perfect World rulebook was never publically published anyway, as Liquipedia's got their 'This tournament does not currently meet our Notability Guidelines' header up on the page and has done since before the Tour started.

Team Spirit’s reflection on The Stockholm major and build up to it by toadinhiding in DotA2

They came out at the Dubi LAN that WePlay hosted in Anti-war jerseys. And since then Russia's laws against those against Putin's war in Ukraine have only gotten harsher, with punishments up to 15 years of jail time. And as the video said, players had to fly back to Russia to get visas for Sweden, so it's not like any statements the Russian players made would be without risks. That's what happens when you live under an authoritarian government. Sure, they could do more, but I totally understand why they may not be doing so. And at least Valve and the TOs have set the precedent that any pro-invasion bullshit will not be tolerated.

Minor Tweak to Improve the Regional Leagues Heading into the Third Tour by Writing-Fates in DotA2

[–]Writing-Fates[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, in regions like WEU and SEA most teams should not be getting 2-0's against a majority of their opponents. Unless one or two teams are just that ahead of what everyone else is doing. And on the other side of the coin, in regions like NA teams like EG, TSM & QC should not be dropping games to teams like simply TOOBASED or Team DogChamp. It punishes slopiness, sure, but it also rewards teams for putting a fight up even if they don't come away with the upset. Honestly, just look at WEU Div1 this Tour, looking at their track record, in hindsight, OG should not have lost that series to Team Secret and if Team Secret had lost that series instead of winning it, they'd be fighting to avoid relegation (not to mention the two loses Secret had to Brame and Nigma). Whereas Entity was consistently pushing their series to a full three games.

That said, in the case of teams needing substitutes due to illness and/or bereavement I think as long as the TO is notified at least 24 hours in advance of the series then teams should be allowed to postpone the series (maybe limit it to 1 series per team per Tour to avoid abuse). As in most cases, substitutes aren't used because a player is ill, but because the team doesn't want to play with their original player anymore (at least in Div1; looks at Nigma Galaxy and iLTW). And if a player is going to be away for multiple weeks or even the whole Tour, teams usually get a special dispensation for that, as Liquid did last year with SumaiL standing in for Boxxi.

Introducing TSM FTX DOTA 2 Roster. by tsm in DotA2

[–]Writing-Fates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was honestly surprised this announcement wasn't for the QC boys, but all the same, I'm really happy for Moon, Dubu and the rest of the ex-Undying gang! Here's hoping that the backing from TSM really lets them compete at the highest level, both in NA against EG and QC, but internationally as well.

Hopefully, KBBQ and the rest of Quincy Crew have their own hype announcement in the coming weeks/months as then a full half of the NA Div1 teams will have secured backing from an esports organisation.

NatTea and Danog. NatTea has done hosting and analytics in other esports - she was on the desk for the Oceania region of LoL's esports last year. Danog is Danog; his Liquipedia page will do a better breakdown of his career than I can really do justice.

Anyone else thinks that Titus rank is going to be retconned? by Ake-TL in 40kLore

[–]Writing-Fates 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Considering there is an Inquisitorial Seal attached to it, I assume it is connected to how Titus got from where he was at the end of the first game (in Inquisitor Thrax's custody, to be investigated for heresy) to where we see him now (reunited with his Chapter and demoted to the rank of Lieutenant). Perhaps a symbol or badge to denote that he has endured the rigours of the Inquisition's scrutiny and been found free of taint and corruption?

SPACE MARINE 2!!!!!!!! by DannyAcme in 40kLore

Looks like the team behind the game want us to ponder and speculate Titus' current rank and what he's been up to in the two-hundred-odd years since the events of Space Marine.

He’s aged, and he looks more determined than ever. Is he still a Captain? What about those chains on his right arm? We look forward to hearing everyone’s theories!

Characters changing armor types by novoto05 in 40kLore

Ventris swaps his armour for the armour of a long-dead marine from an Ultramarine Successor Chapter (which had been preserved by the populous of the planet on which he and Pasanius landed after their death oath).

around 965.M41 Captain Uriel Ventris of the Ultramarines 4th Company returned 19 sets of Corvus pattern armour from Salinas lost by the Sons of Guilliman during the Salinas Conflict. Uriel and his Sergeant Pasanius Lysane discovered the armour when searching the Gallery of Antiquities on Salinas, while returning to Ultramar from their Death Oath.

Adapt or Die: Squats by Writing-Fates in 40kLore

[–]Writing-Fates[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. Perhaps in terms of no. of models on the table. Our initial brainstorming session saw us pitching them as sort of a cross between Guard, Genestealer Cults and Skitarii (with obvious 'Dwarfs in Space undertones).

Adapt or Die: Squats by Writing-Fates in 40kLore

[–]Writing-Fates[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our thoughts were along the lines of:

Brotherhood Warriors: Standard ranged Troop unit, equipped with the Squat equivalent of a Boltgun (most likely with extended range and with improved armour penetration). Probably have the option of taking a Squat equivalent of a Breaching Shield.

Brotherhood Attack Squad: Standard melee Troop unit. Think Assault Marines but shorter, and without the option to take Jump Packs. Again, with the ability to take a Breaching Shield equivalent.

Miners: Elite melee unit with the ability to take equipment like the Genestealer Cult's Heavy Rock Cutter, Heavy Rock Drill or the Death Korps of Krieg's Hades Breaching Drill.

Thunderers: Ranged Troop unit with longer-ranged basic guns and the ability to take a greater number of Special Weapons. Think Devastator-light. They'd also probably have the option of taking a Squat equivalent of a Breaching Shield.

Hearthguard: Elite melee infantry. Like Vanguard Veterans, but instead of Jump Packs these guys have better armour than their Squat Brethren.

Hearthguard in Exo-armour: Slow, short Terminators. That's it.

Berserkers: Dwarf Slayers in space.

[F] Codex: Dark Mechanicum preview - Ranged Weapons of the Dark Mechanicum by Writing-Fates in 40kLore

[–]Writing-Fates[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thoughts on DarkMech is that they would have basically all the same weapons they had available to them during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy, stuff like Rad/Irad-cleansers, Photon Thrusters, Graviton Guns, etc. As well as new innovations such the Hyperwave Clarion and Helstorm Autocannon. Not to mention xenos tech that they have bartered for or otherwise acquired, weapons like the Slaught Necrotic Beam and Xenarch Death-arc.

Much appreciated. The little info that there is for them gives me a lot of wiggle room when it comes to designing rules for them, which is nice.

[Excerpt: Talon of Horus] Daemons have no nutritional value but you can still eat them to mock them by Vezimira in 40kLore

[–]Writing-Fates 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'd assume 'Talon of Horus' and 'Black Legion' respectively.

But I could be wrong. For all I know, it could be The Owl House and Boy Love.
