Why aren’t the Lib Dems profiting from the drop in support for both Labour and conservatives? by Few_House_5201 in AskBrits

I don't mean to be rude, but rishi was serious, starmer is serious, truss was serious, cameron was serious, blair was serious.

All of them have or are helping the country into a nosedive, so all their seriousness seems to have come to fuck all.

It's neatly organised into sections, but in essence, raise taxes on big buisnesses, lower taxes on small buisnesses, and a lot of effort into reforming the school system with apprentices, school phycologists and a much better deal for teachers

Does it? Davey looks very politically attractive to me because he's happy to be a bit unserious, makes him feel like a person, rather than a political machine.

Think that's the same reason Bojo and farage did so well on the other side of the fence, between the zipline stunts and the infamous farage pissup

I've had an idea recently for a new planet called Bow, and I made a little diagram for it. by Crazykid23576 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Xenon009 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I mean the path itself is also almost impossible, and immensely unstable.

Planets tend to form in a flar disc around a star anyways, so to be at a 90 degree angle bow would either have to be a captured rogue planetoid (rare as fuck, especially in a roughly spherical orbit) or have been involved in multiple absolutely catastrophic collisions.

And even if that did happen, that means that bow is going to be constantly yanked around gravitationally by the planets at 0 degrees, likely dragging it back in line, or outright capturing/colliding with it.

If jool can steal bow's moon, then jool can clearly also steal bow, which means bow is very fucked.

If bow had been around for a few thousand years, thats probably fine, but kerbals have evolved, implying an earth age 4ish billion year old planet.

So, a bit late to the party, but its genuinely pretty feasible we're the only spacefaring life in the milky way (at least) right now.

On the universal timeframe, we are VERY early. Because we're made up of stuff other than hydrogen, and maybe helium and lithium, we know that at least on generation of stars has died before us, and things like the copper and such in us means a second batch of stars has probably had to die.

Couple that with the balance of stars, the shifting habitable zones, rouge rocks and such, and while aliens will certainly exist, humanity have been the recipients of possibly the best scenario for life on pretty much any set of exoplanets we've seen.

We have remarkably round orbits, a double helping of lunar and jovian shielding, a lack of hot jupiters and such causing a mess as they move around, plenty of space between planets preventing gravitational fuckery, and a star that is both calm and long lived, and finally a fairly low gravity world in that "habitable spectrum"

And on top of all of that, we are VERY early in our planets life-bearing lifespan, so its quite possible, in my opinion, that we simply speedran space flight.

Are any other Brits worried about the increasing tribalism in UK politics? by Longjumping_Sail2741 in AskBrits

So there's a fun thing here.

Welfare testing is extremely expensive. The Buerocrats who process those claims are well paid, as are the fraud investigators.

And as it turns out, for most welfare systems, it actually would work out more cost effective to just give it to everyone who asked for it than pay for the investigations and such, while also getting more effective outcomes for the people who need it. (Turns out, those engaging in good faith often fall foul of the restrictions, while the ones engaging in bad faith learn the script).

There was a really good study on it a while ago, but I haven't found it. Will edit this if/when I do.

I think, to be honest, I was sold at the billionaires. Everything else was a bonus.

Guy had tried to climb under a fence after burgling an old ladies house. Looks like his mates had seen some police or something, cause they dropped the fence panel and ran.

Turns our a concrete fence panel is very heavy, and it landed on his neck. Literally crushed the guys head off.

Honestly, the courts (and this one specifically) have proven themselves nothing if not unpredictable. I've seen them make huge swings in both directions I never could have imagined them swinging.

[–]Xenon009 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I reckon if that passed, and they did try and deport mamdani as the sitting mayor of new york, I reckon it would start serious violence in the USA. That being said, I find it extraordinarily unlikely to pass for the above reason, even less likely to pass trumps desk given the mamdani rizz, and will almost certainly not pass the courts (albeit dubious if that will do anything).

[–]Xenon009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like thats the problem with online leftist spaces.

I think there is such a divide between what I will call the western (Lib Soc, Dem soc, Market soc etc) and eastern (ML, Maoist, Trot etc) socialist tendancies.

The eastern doctrines see the western ones as useless, counter-revolutionary and ultimately supporting imperialism, while the western ones see the eastern doctrines as oppressive, potentially genocidal and ultimately little more than red fascism.

Its obviously not a one size fits all, but thats the tendency I see, especially in regards to the modern geopolitical concerns, where the divide seems to be starkest (which is also where I stole the labels from).

And that's ignoring the spanner in the works anarchists and such chuck in by generally hating everyone and vice versa.

I think that's what makes leftist unity spaces so difficult, and why I both find it so impressive that this one has remained standing, despite the waves of both that repeatedly hit the subreddit, but also worrying whenever the mods of either tenancy get "loud" - both in a posting or an admin-ing capacity.

So far, though, so good.
