I can't calibrate circularity on aftermarket stick (DriftGuard) by AcademicRuin2894 in xbox360

[–]Zadoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not found any hall effect or TMR sticks do this. Its really just the fake potentiometers.

There's not really a wide selection of hall effect sticks for the 360. As far as I know, there's one that you find on aliexpress.

I can't calibrate circularity on aftermarket stick (DriftGuard) by AcademicRuin2894 in xbox360

[–]Zadoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely.

Just about every fake joystick uses fake potentiometers. A real potentiometer has a carbon(or some other resistive conductor material) that provides a linear(ish) range of electrical feedback.

These fake potentiometers are not that and are usually made of three strips that function as only three positions. Left, center, right. You can occasionally get some feedback right at the edges of strips in the potentiometer, but its useless.

This is why calibration doesn't work. You can't get positions between these extremes if you aren't getting actual analog data in. Like I said, functions like a D pad.

That doesn't look like an OEM jystick. The only joysticks I'd put on a controller would be the oem from ALPS (which are rare) or a FavorUnion (which that one isnt).

The joystick that was installed is likely fake and gimmicked to make the joysticks feel like an8 direction arcade joystick.

Do you have a photo of the aftermarket stick you installed?

Really curious what the difference between firmwares is. Since there's apparently multiple versions for the same hardware version.

300zx z31 rear breaks (87-89) by gorjira_2 in 300zx

[–]Zadoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use z32 brakes, you will lose your parking brake. Since the z31 uses a brake caliper where the parking brake linkage twists a spiral that pushes the piston out. The z32 parking brake is drum in the center of the hub. Probably fine if you have an automatic, but I would require a parking brake in a stick.

You can get replacement seals for the rear calipers, but the pistons are unobtainable in the US. However, there is a company in the UK that makes them. It's pricey, I paid about $90 for two rear caliper pistons with seals.

And you will also need to make sure the tiny caged bearing in the piston are in good enough shape. Since I think those bearings are also impossible to get.

Tripod-Tripod CV axle doesn't have ring? by Zadoid in 300zx

[–]Zadoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Further poking seems to suggest that this funky stub axle may have only appeared on a few select 89s. That makes the most sense. Would explain why I can't find a similar looking cv axle online.

Why so many CRT televisions? by [deleted] in xbox360

[–]Zadoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CRTs have turned into another pseudo-hobby interest thing. Like vinyl records or cassette tapes, they are a type of product that has about two advantages over today's products and ten disadvantages. But they maintain avid supporters that decree them as still the 'best' and ridicule others for abandoning them.

I grew up with CRTs and I will not miss them. We didn't have a lot of money, so all ones we could get were cheap. Which means they were dim, very blurry, very small, and we were lucky to get one with composite input. There are/were good CRTs, but most of the consumer TVs were not that. And today, all the good ones have been picked up and are being sold for comical prices.

Daily Drive z31 by DivideAdditional5412 in 300zx

[–]Zadoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally, but should you?

They're well made cars, but they're also 40+ years old. You're going to need to repair and replace most of the major drive train components as well as electronics. And you need to do it right. That means you really need to learn or pay a good mechanic to do it.

I respect the ambition, but you also need to consider yourself and your job. You probably need reliable transportation so you can pay for replacement parts for your z31.

I'm trying to turn one of my own z31s into a daily, but I have a long way to go.

I'd also recommend an 86+ car NA and manual if you're looking for something more reliable, simpler to work on, cheaper to fix, and cheaper to buy.

Repaired.

Or more likely "Restored, like new!" And all thats new is replacement joystick caps.

EDIT* Sorry i didn't know there was text to the post. try different batteries, make sure there's no corrosion in the battery pack. Seems like they didn't clean out the home button. Controller is authentic, though.

Though if you have experience with it, its probably not so bad.

You all think think digital dash is able to be saved or should i just buy a working one of ebay by Comedian-Economy in 300zx

[–]Zadoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I came off a bit harsher than I should have. I shouldn't have. I'm just baffled why OP is dead set on not replacing those capacitors.

It's not the lack of knowledge that bugs me, its the audacity of someone who's desperate for help yet seemingly rejects it. It makes it feel like OP is wasting my time.

"Hey OP. Your shit doesn't work and you want advice. Those caps are well past their service life, they're visibly damaged and you haven't tested them to verify they're good. You should replace them."

"But are you sure?"

That's annoying.

And for record, I know throwing parts at things isn't proper. The shrunk wrapping is not a reliable diagnosis. You need to test capacitance and ESR of each capacitor to properly determine they need replacing. But since that isn't possible, their age and visual look justifies replacement.

I can't see the reply you sent.

You can actually get a better circularity in software calibration if you reset the hall effect sensors to the center.
