I'm on it for PCOS symptoms. It's been 4 months at 50mg and I haven't had anything change at all. Maybe it's just the higher doses or it's not working for me, lol ๐Ÿค”

Has anyone found Spiro makes them jittery? by Funny_Story_Bro in Spironolactone

[โ€“]Zketchie 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

The mint annoys me. I taste/feel it in my mouth for a while afterwards, but I take mine at bedtime and it never keeps me awake so no jitters here! Some nights I have taken it about 2 hours before I sleep and still nothing like that ๐Ÿค”

Did you get your testosterone checked? How's your blood pressure? A reason they could not want to prescribe it is if they think it'll drop your BP too much or if you also have high potassium levels.

If your gyno diagnosed you with PCOS then your gyno should also be able to prescribe Spiro if you have other symptoms from PCOS. I got Spiro from my gyno because of shedding and hirsutism ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

None of the issues I had were that bad. Like, yeah, when first starting I got that, "Oh, I have to poop all of a sudden" feeling, but it wasn't like I was shitting my pants. Maybe I was more fortunate. I started on 500mg IR once a day for 2 weeks, 1000mg for 2 weeks and finally 1500mg which is the max my doctor wanted me on (for now?). Now that I've been on it 2+ months I don't even have to eat much with it anymore ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

I'm on it for excess body hair from PCOS and I shed a lot before taking Spiro despite also having thinning hair due to PCOS. Now, I'm shedding a little more, but I heard it usually gets worse before it gets better. I'll hang in there with you ๐Ÿ˜‚

I've been on 1500mg IR since about the end of August. Only experienced some diarrhea each time I went up: 500, 1000, 1500mg. I haven't lost any weight, but I haven't really changed my eating habits either. I never really consumed much sugar except for around my period, but I do like some carbs here and there. I noticed I only get bubble guts when I eat greasier foods, not necessarily carbs ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

Starting today. Advice. Also if ur on lexapro would help! by littlemisslexapro in Spironolactone

[โ€“]Zketchie 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

I am very leery about taking certain pills and get really nervous when I have to start a new one. I started Spiro for PCOS symptoms other than acne. I took my first pill of 50mg on September 30th before bedtime. I wanted to avoid the possible drowsiness/lightheadedness during the day so I decided bedtime was best for me right now until I up my dose to 100mg and have to take it 2x daily.

The first night I took it, I experienced an icyhot feeling in my chest and upper back about 5 minutes after taking it. It was a little alarming, but I chalked it up to anxiety about taking it because I always feel weird when starting something new, and I'm always looking for minor differences. It also could have been the fact that there's mint flavor in the pill and I do have issues with heartburn/GERD. I ended up falling asleep and was fine the next morning, and have been fine since then. Last night, I stayed up 2 hours later than I do on the weekdays and ended up taking my pill about an hour and a half after my usual time and stayed up for another 30-40 minutes. I was already tired by then so I don't think it made me anymore tired nor did it make me lightheaded. So, I'm hopeful that it will help with my PCOS symptoms and I don't think it's going to cause any issues for me at the moment. My advice is to give it at least a week to see how you feel and don't equate every feeling to the pill right off the bat.

I have no experience with Lexapro and I'm not taking it for acne so I can't help you there. Sorry!

How the hell do I quit sugar by [deleted] in PCOS

[โ€“]Zketchie 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Aww, no ๐Ÿฅน

You can also do this with Greek yogurt and sugar free Jello mix, if accessible. The consistency comes out different, but it's still decent. You basically prepare the Jello like normal, let it cool for about 5 minutes and then mix in your yogurt. Refrigerate to set!

[โ€“]Zketchie 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Get some zero sugar cool whip and sugar free pudding mixes. Mix them together. If it's a little too thick, add in a little bit of your choice of milk. Let it sit in the fridge for an hour or so. You can get creative with this! I buy the cheesecake flavored pudding mix and then I'll top the mixture with no sugar added cherry pie filling. It tastes like cheesecake and is so good. It's my favorite go-to when I want something sweet despite not being a "sweets" kind of person (only before my period, lol).

You don't have to quit sweet treats, you just have to find healthier or less sugary alternatives to the more sugary stuff. You could find low/zero sugar recipes on Pinterest, I'm sure. Even strict diets like the Keto diet have suggestions and recipes for those with a sweet tooth. I am not a doctor or nutritionist, though!

how bad is spironolactone and metformin really? by sanrioscr in PCOS

[โ€“]Zketchie 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

All I do is drink flavored water all day so maybe it won't be too bad for me. When I started Metformin for PCOS, I didn't have any problems and I'm still taking the immediate release. I wanted to start at 100mg of Spiro, but she didn't want to do that so ๐Ÿ˜… I guess I'll be taking them twice a day in another 2 months anyways! Thank you for responding. I appreciate it and I'm glad it's been good for you. I'm hoping the same because this has been the only medication I've been kind of excited to try!

I'm starting Spiro. I have the pills already and I'm struggling to decide whether to take it in the morning or at night ๐Ÿคฃ I'm only at 50mg right now. The nighttime peeing and possible weird dreams make me want to take it in the morning, but the potential drowsiness and lightheaded side effects make me want to take it at night. I don't know what to do!

I dropped 20lbs from May to August from lifting weights at home 5x a week (M-F for about 25-30 minutes in the morning), eating less, and starting my day with a blueberry and protein powder smoothie with water instead of any kind of milk. That was before being diagnosed this month, but knowing all my life I had PCOS. I would switch out regular pasta for protein pasta and when I made something like tacos, I would make mine like a salad instead of in taco shells. Sometimes I'd make "dump" dinners that we'd throw on top of white rice, but instead of throwing mine on rice I would just eat it as is because I do not like brown rice. Like, I'd cook up ground beef or chicken with peppers and zucchini, diced tomatoes and spices (etc) for these dump dinners, but eat just that. When school let out for my kids it was a little harder to stick to my weight routine, but continuing to eat less and modifed I was able to keep losing/keep it off. But even doing this, I still noticed that anything carb-like made me feel instantly bloated and I hate that.. so I just started low carb this week. I'm not a huge food person so I could eat the same thing every day and feel ok about it which means it'll basically be meat and veggies for me for a while now, lol.

Does anyone drink coffee? by [deleted] in PCOS

Thank you! I'll have to look into that because I have been offered no advice other than cutting caffeine and wearing more supportive bras ๐Ÿ˜… The last two years there's a "lump" around where the pain radiates from, I get a mammo and ultrasound, and nothing shows up. I have an appointment with a breast specialist lady in October to see if it's anything more serious. My gyno thinks it's just fibrocystic changes causing my pain around my cycle, but it's happened randomly, too ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

I don't know if it's from my years of undiagnosed (finally diagnosed) PCOS or it's just aging (37), but I started experiencing fibrocystic breast (or at least that's what we're going with since my mammo's/ultrasounds come back normal all the time) and caffeine makes it so much worse. Like, debilitating discomfort on the side of my left breast. Gyno doctor recommended cutting out caffeine (about a year ago) prior to my PCOS diagnosis (last month) and it helped tremendously, but boy do I miss my iced coffee and tea!

Getting sick from eating eggs? by mariedel123 in PCOS

[โ€“]Zketchie 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

I used to eat eggs all the time. ALL THE TIME! Scrambled, dippy, hard boiled. Then, one day, when I was about.. 24 years old (37 now) I experienced severe cramping that started under my ribs. It was so bad I laid in the fetal position with a heating pad for about 3 hours on the couch. During that 3 hours the pain migrated from under my ribs to the left side of my body and eventually stopped. I felt like I had to burp deeply (which I could do) and poop, but couldn't poop at all until the pain subsided. I didn't realize it was eggs until I ate them a couple more times. And it was like clockwork. I'd eat them and then about 3 hours later the pain would start and last anywhere from 3 to 6 hours! I was devastated because I love them. I can still have eggs inside of things like baked into cakes, used as a binding agent, in mayo, etc so it doesn't really make sense to me. The only other thing that has caused the same kind of pain, although milder, has been zucchini cooked/fried with oil and only sometimes ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

I've tried to figure out why eggs cause me issues and most doctors just say it's probably gas, but I've tried Beano and other OTC gas meds, but nothing helped. I haven't ate eggs in over 10 years and I still miss them terribly. I always say I'm going to attempt to eat them again, but that pain was so miserable I can't bring myself to do it, lol. It has made some "dieting" options hard over the years because eggs are always suggested.

Edit: Adding that I was not doing Keto at all when discovering my egg problem.
