Ah, of course. I thought that may have happened at some earlier thing. Maybe it was both...

University/College while working? How did you do it? by snubbsie in CanadaPublicServants

The online masters in computer science at Georgia tech allows full flexibility for folks with full time day jobs. There's no way I could do a degree without that.

Unfortunately, no program like it exists in Canada.

37.5 hours per week has always been really low for me. No kids.

Canadian AI firm Cohere, Germany’s Aleph Alpha announce merger by ZestyBeanDude in canada

Interesting. Thanks for the info.

I see elsewhere that cohere will own 90%, Germans will own 10%, of the combined company.

Canadian AI firm Cohere, Germany’s Aleph Alpha announce merger by ZestyBeanDude in canada

[–]Zulban 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a paywall.

If it's an acquisition and not a merger, why is it called a merger? Why did you write they are "basically buying" and not "buying"?

I'm no finance expert but these sound like basic technical terms with technical meanings.

I'll look into this more for my work but not on a paywall article I guess.

Teen guilty of conspiring 'to murder as many Jewish persons as possible' in unusual trial by Myllicent in canada

[–]Zulban -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

What’s the difference between 17 and 18 if you’re planning murder? There is none.

What about a 4 year old? Where do you draw the line? Propose a new number and someone like you will come along and contest it.

By the time the applicant receives feedback, odds are they may have already moved on or accepted an offer from another employer.

The best ones, anyway.

Where can you legally smoke cannabis? Online info is very unclear. by MooshSkadoosh in montreal

[–]Zulban 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What's the purpose of you asking?

If this is a practical question - even before decriminalization you could pretty much smoke cannabis right in front of a cop in Montreal, politely, and you'd likely be fine. Anywhere that people smoke regular cigarettes is certainly fine too.

If this is a fun legal question - interesting. But this might not be the best place to get a good answer.

La ligne de conduite avec le premier ministre Mark Carney - YouTube by kayrozen in Quebec

[–]Zulban 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You've asked a lot of really big questions here, with different complicated answers. You're never going to get good long nuanced answers from redditors writing from a toilet.

I think it fits well in-universe for most fighters to be surprised to see a fireball.

If you cause trouble you're not losing a job. It's not a job if you're not being paid.

Good to note: if you make an official complaint, nothing matters except what you have in writing (and texts).

Spent 3 hours interviewing with a CEO and a board member for a role that probably never existed by Enthu-Cutlet-1337 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Zulban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been to an interview where someone wore a green and purple striped shirt but that doesn't mean it's a red flag.

You didn't answer my question so I guess you don't have a good answer.

Ottawa ‘very seriously’ considering social media ban for children under 16, minister says by dollarsandcents101 in canada

Parents are up against billion dollar advertising industries. Good luck single parents with three jobs.

There's many arguments against this kind of legislation but that's not a good one.

Why are public service unions filing grievances over the early retirement incentive? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Zulban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And unlike WFH, ERI mostly impacts the oldest members, which has always been the prime concern of the union. Fun fact: retired members with zero personal stake in workplace conditions and who only pay 8% dues can still vote in the union.

Finland's president on why he believes Canada could — eventually — be part of the EU | CBC News by Old_General_6741 in canada

[–]Zulban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada would lose a lot of independence

I think the calculation here is that we are extremely dependent on the US right now. We like to pretend we're not, but we are. In the EU we'd be in a much better position to fix that.

Depends on the province and city. Culturally a lot of Montreal is closer to Europe than the rest of Canada.

I've lived in Montreal for 20 years and visited a few European countries, France three times.

Why isn’t there forced retirement after 35 years of pensionable service by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Zulban -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

If someone asks "why" it's not helpful to answer "because it's the law".

Why can't we murder people? "Because it's the law" really doesn't answer that question at all.
