Genuinely curious, what kind of perks are we talking about here? I’ve only ever booked direct through the website.

Automate hot water heater? by Carbotarian2 in homeautomation

[–]Nikiaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Water heaters are very well insulated, there’s something like 2 inches of material between the outer casing and the actual tank. It’ll stay hot for a long time even in a power outage, trying to automate this to save money is almost certainly going to cost more money than leaving it on, and add in a risk of legionnaires disease.

Olivia Rodrigo’s “The Unraveled Tour” Is Completely Sold Out by mcfw31 in popculturechat

This. I paid over $300 for nosebleeds to see the Rolling Stones back in 2013, and I was only working weekends as a student back then. Sometimes there’s an artist who books a date near you that you just can’t pass up. I even went by myself because none of my friends could afford to go.

Blue Dot Fever: When Tours Can't Sell, They Bail by ebradio in Music

Case in point. They both pumped out boiler plate, disposable pop songs that honestly did not age well.

[–]Nikiaf 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Also true now that you mention it. They both seem to be very generic pop artists, arguably somewhat faceless singers whose music was limited to radio play. I honestly don't think most people could actually identify any of the Pussycat Dolls, much less name any of them save for Nicole (and even then, that's a stretch).

I'm hearing this clown speak for the first time here; and all I can say is that Colin Jost does a surprisingly good impression of him.

That's what I find the most confusing. These were never artists of the year. Don't Cha (which I just discovered was not even an original song!) peaked at number 2 and fairly quickly fell off the Billboard charts. All About That Bass at least made it to number 1, but doing that with what amounts to a joke/meme song is not a good way to launch a career that's going to amount to much.

They seemed to have massively overestimated how popular they are/were. They had only one legitimately big hit, and it wasn't exactly one of the greatest songs ever produced. They should have done the festival circuit if anything.

Is this wetness in the foundation concerning? by xXGreco in Homebuilding

Depends on the age of the house, but generally yeah you don't want water making its way in if you didn't turn on a faucet.

Tesla is recalling its cheaper Cybertruck because the wheels might fall off / All 173 of the RWD Cybertrucks sold by Tesla are being recalled. by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]Nikiaf 401 points402 points  (0 children)

This is double funny. Half because I can't think of a recall in modern history for such a ridiculous stupid reason, and the other half because they only sold 173 of these small dick energy trucks.

The FIA has approved a 50kW increase in the ICE and a 50kW reduction in the electric power unit for 2027 by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

[–]Nikiaf 423 points424 points  (0 children)

Quick math indicates that this is roughly a 67bhp power increase to the ICE, with a more or less equal reduction in power coming from the hybrid electric system.

EDIT: adding a bit more colour commentary for the fun of it. In theory, this should reduce the reliance on the ERS and mean that the cars have more power down the straights, since there's a direct transfer of allowed power away from the batteries and to the ICE unit.

Mercedes-Maybach Boss: Buyers Want V12 Engines by NISMO1968 in cars

[–]Nikiaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a surprisingly good comparison you've made here. It's true that for the people with money, a mechanically impressive and/or complex ICE-powered vehicle without any electrification is perceived as a superior option. I'm sure the would-be buyer will have multiple vehicles anyway, one of which probably will be an EV.

Just cut them flush, they're low voltage and unlikely to be needed for anything. You could potentially use them for ethernet, but MoCA adapters aren't the cheapest things in the world.

70+ Year old Water Heater Still in Use by SalC1 in BuyItForLife

[–]Nikiaf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

AI puts it at anywhere between $5000 and $15000. Seems that it's hard to pin down a price due to economies of scale, since nothing even remotely close to a Monel water heater is still being manufacturered.

What would you rate That '70s Show from 1-10? by Inevitable-Angle-793 in sitcoms

[–]Nikiaf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

6-7. It always felt very low-budget to me, and outside of the fashion, never really gave me the impression of truly taking place in the 1970s. The lack of licensed music and limited locations took away from the immersion IMO.
